Legalon® forte Madaus is a herbal medicine used for liver diseases.It is made from the fruits of milk thistle (Silybum marianum), a medicinal plant that was already used in the Middle Ages.No prescription is required for this product.

Areas of application

Legalon® forte Madaus is used as a supportive treatment for chronic inflammatory liver diseases, liver cirrhosis and toxic liver damage.It strengthens and supports liver function.

Mode of action

Legalon® forte Madaus helps the liver with metabolic processes and detoxification through the effects of milk thistle.It protects against radicals and improves the liver's ability to heal itself.The silymarin extract ensures rapid availability.It can also increase the performance of the liver and thus improve the vitality of the body.It is particularly indicated for liver diseases such as liver cirrhosis or chronic inflammatory diseases.

The active ingredient in Legalon® forte Madaus is milk thistle fruit dry extract.One hard capsule contains 173.0 - 186.7 mg dry extract of milk thistle fruit, corresponding to 108 mg silymarin (HPLC) and 140 mg silymarin (DNPH), calculated as silibinin.Ethyl acetate 98% (V/V) is used as an extractant.

The other ingredients are corn starch, microcrystalline cellulose, poly(O-carboxymethyl) starch, sodium salt, sodium dodecyl sulfate, magnesium stearate, gelatin, titanium dioxide E 171, iron (III) oxide E 172 and iron(II,III) oxide E 172.

Contraindications

If you are known to be hypersensitive to any of the ingredients mentioned, the product should not be used.It is not indicated for acute poisoning.

Dosage

Adults and adolescents aged 12 and over take one Legalon® forte Madaus hard capsule with liquid three times a day.

Intake

The hard capsules should be swallowed whole with a little liquid before eating.

Patient information

Drug therapy does not replace avoiding causes that damage the liver, such as alcohol.If you have jaundice, you should see a doctor.There are no sufficient studies on use in children under 12 years of age, so the product should not be used at this age.

No special precautions are required when driving or using machines.

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.The safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been adequately studied.It is not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women.
