Artelac® is a proven remedy for relieving dry eyes that has been used successfully for over 20 years.The active ingredient hypromellose helps to reduce signs of drying out of the surface of the eye and provides beneficial symptom relief.The eye drops are thin and easy to drip, which makes them easier to use.

Areas of application

Artelac eye drops are suitable for the symptomatic treatment of drying out of the cornea and conjunctiva caused by tear secretion and tear dysfunction.These can arise from local or systemic diseases as well as from inadequate or incomplete eyelid closure.Typical symptoms include burning eyes, foreign body sensation and photophobia, especially in wind, heat and fatigue.The eye drops can also be used to wet and re-wet hard contact lenses.

Mode of action

The active ingredient hypromellose increases the viscosity of tears and reduces surface tension.This forms a gel that adheres well to the cornea and conjunctiva and ensures sufficient lubrication of the eye.This helps relieve symptoms and reduce signs of dehydration.

The active ingredient in Artelac eye drops is hypromellose.1 ml solution contains 3.20 mg hypromellose.The viscosity of the solution is between 7 and 11 mPa s.The other ingredients are cetrimide, sodium monohydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, sorbitol, sodium edetate and water for injections.

The correct use of the medicine

To use Artelac eye drops, tilt your head back slightly and pull your lower eyelid down slightly.Hold the dropper bottle vertically a few centimeters above the eye and drip a drop into the conjunctival sac.Then close your eye and slowly move it back and forth to distribute the liquid.If necessary, you can use the eye drops three to five times a day.No prescription is required for this product.

Moisten contact lenses with Artelac eye drops

Hard contact lenses can be moistened and re-lubricated directly in the eye with Artelac eye drops.If you wear soft contact lenses, you should remove them before moistening the eye and reinsert them after a quarter of an hour.

Contraindications

The product should not be used if you are known to be hypersensitive to individual ingredients.

Dosage

Unless otherwise prescribed, the recommended dose is 1 drop into the conjunctival sac 3 to 5 times daily or more frequently, depending on requirements.The same applies to the rewetting of hard contact lenses.

Patient information

Since this medicine, even when used as intended, has a short-term effect on visual performance and thus on the ability to react due to the formation of streaks, you should not drive, work without a secure footing or operate machines during this time.In the case of soft contact lenses, they should be removed before using the eye drops and not reinserted until approximately 15 minutes after instillation.Hard contact lenses may remain in the eye during use.

Pregnancy

There are no concerns about its use during pregnancy and breastfeeding as hypromellose is not absorbed and is therefore not systemically available.Before using any medicines, ask your doctor or pharmacy for advice.

Notes

Keep out of the reach of children.Do not store above 30°C.Cannot be used for longer than 6 weeks after opening.The preservative cetrimide contained in it can cause irritation of the eye (burning, redness, foreign body sensation) and damage the corneal epithelium, especially if used frequently and for a long time.If you notice such irritation, you should use a preparation without preservatives.

Application

Tilt your head back.Use the index finger of one hand to pull the lower eyelid down.With the other hand, hold the dropper bottle vertically over the eye (without touching the eye) and drip 1 drop into the pulled-down conjunctival sac. Slowly close your eye and move it back and forth to allow the liquid to distribute well.If necessary, repeat the process for the second eye.

Hard contact lenses can be moistened directly with Artelac®.Remove soft contact lenses before dripping and reinsert them after 15 minutes.
