Areas of application

Soventol HydroCort 0.5% cream is used for acute skin inflammation.It is suitable for the treatment of skin diseases that respond to corticosteroid treatment, such as inflammatory, allergic or pruritic dermatoses.These include eczema, skin inflammation, skin allergies and mild neurodermatitis.The active ingredient hydrocortisone has also proven effective for sunburn, insect bites, itchy skin, sun allergies and skin reactions caused by the oak processionary moth caterpillar.

Mode of action

Soventol HydroCort 0.5% cream contains a weak corticosteroid, namely hydrocortisone.This natural adrenal cortex hormone has an anti-inflammatory effect and intervenes in the inflammatory process at several points.It allows allergic symptoms to subside more quickly and, thanks to its vasoconstrictor effect, ensures that swelling and redness of the skin disappears quickly.It also regulates the formation of connective tissue cells and collagen synthesis.Due to the low dosage, the cream is generally well tolerated when used correctly.

Ingredients

The active ingredient of Soventol HydroCort 0.5% cream is hydrocortisone with a concentration of 0.5%.Other ingredients include thin paraffin, cetostearyl alcohol, white petrolatum, cetomacrogol 1000, emulsified wax, propylene glycol, phenoxyethanol, potassium sorbate, sorbic acid, sodium edetate and purified water.

Application

The cream is applied thinly to the affected skin regions two to three times a day and rubbed in lightly.If symptoms improve, use can be reduced to once a day.The cream should not be used for longer than 14 days without consulting a doctor.If an application is forgotten, double the amount should not be applied to avoid an overdose.

Special instructions for use

The cream should not be used for longer than 7 days on a maximum of 1/10 of the body surface.Large-area application or application under a bandage requires medical supervision.The preparation must not be used in the eye or on open wounds.No prescription is required for this product.

Contraindications

People who are allergic to hydrocortisone or any other component of the cream must not use Soventol HydroCort 0.5%.Children under 6 years of age should only be treated with the cream on medical advice and according to the exact instructions of a medical professional.Patients with tuberculous or syphilitic skin diseases as well as during a chickenpox infection or a vaccination reaction should not use the cream.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

During pregnancy, the cream should be used for as short a period of time as possible and not over large areas.It should only be used in urgent cases.Breastfeeding mothers must be careful not to apply the cream to the breast area so that the baby does not come into contact with the active ingredient.

Side effects

Soventol HydroCort 0.5% is generally considered a well-tolerated preparation.In rare cases, sensitive people may experience irritation on the treated skin areas.The cream contains sorbic acid, potassium sorbate and cetostearyl alcohol, which can cause skin irritation in individual cases.

Notes

Do not use Soventol HydroCort 0.5% cream for longer than 2 weeks.If there is a concurrent infection caused by bacteria or fungi, this must be treated separately.
