Remifemin® is a herbal medicine that is used to relieve psychological and neurovegetative symptoms during menopause.These include hot flashes, sweats and sleep disorders.The active ingredient is a dry extract from the rhizome of black cohosh (Cimicifuga racemosa).

One tablet of Remifemin® contains 2.5 mg dry extract from Cimicifuga rhizome, obtained by extraction with isopropanol.The other ingredients include cellulose powder, lactose monohydrate, potato starch and magnesium stearate.

Dosage

The recommended dosage is one tablet twice daily, which should be swallowed whole with a little liquid.The tablets can be taken without regard to meals.The effect of Remifemin® does not occur immediately.The first therapeutic effects become apparent after around two weeks of treatment.It is recommended to take Remifemin® for several months, but not longer than six months without medical advice.

Contraindications

Remifemin® must not be used if there is hypersensitivity to black cohosh rhizome or any of the other ingredients.It should not be taken or only after consultation with a doctor if the liver has been damaged, if you are taking estrogens at the same time, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Patient information

Particular caution is required if menstrual bleeding is disturbed or bleeding occurs again.You should also consult a doctor if you have persistent, unclear symptoms or new symptoms.Medical supervision is required when taking estrogens at the same time, as Remifemin® can increase the effects of estrogens.If the liver has already been damaged, the medicine should only be taken after consulting a doctor.If you notice signs of liver damage, you should stop taking it immediately and see a doctor.If you have breast cancer or other hormone-dependent tumors, Remifemin® should not be taken without medical advice.If symptoms worsen during treatment, a doctor or pharmacist should be consulted.

Driving and operating machines do not require any special precautions.

Pregnancy

There are no sufficient data on use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.Remifemin® should therefore not be taken during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

Notes
