Remifemin tablets contain the active ingredient dry extract of cimicifuga rhizome and are used to improve the psychological and neurovegetative symptoms during menopause such as hot flushes, sweating and sleep disturbances. A warning notice states that the tablets contain lactose and that the package leaflet should be read. The recommended dosage is one tablet twice daily, regardless of meals. The tablets should not be taken for more than 6 months without medical advice. Possible side effects include gastrointestinal discomfort, skin reactions and swelling of the face. Remifemin contains 2.5 mg dry extract of cimicifuga rhizome and various excipients such as cellulose powder, lactose monohydrate, potato starch and magnesium stearate.
