Application of the preparation

The preparation is a powder that is used to prepare an intestinal lavage solution. This solution is used to cleanse the intestines before diagnostic examinations, such as colonoscopy, and before intestinal surgical procedures. No prescription is required for this product.

Active ingredients and ingredients

The preparation contains the following active ingredients and ingredients: 0.743 g potassium chloride, 10 mmol potassium ions, 10 mmol chloride ions, 59 g macrogol 3350, 17.6 mmol macrogol 3350, 1.465 g sodium chloride, 25 mmol sodium ions, 25 mmol chloride ions, 1.685 g sodium bicarbonate, 20 mmol sodium ions, 20mmol hydrogen carbonate ions, 5.685 g anhydrous sodium sulfate, 40 mmol sulfate ions, 80 mmol sodium ions.In addition, it contains the excipients 49.4 mg aspartame, phenylalanine, 35 mmol total chloride ions, 125 mmol total sodium ions, 2.9 g total sodium ions and vanilla flavor.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be used if you are hypersensitive to the active ingredients or any of the other ingredients. It must also not be used if you suffer from advanced heart failure, if your intestines are not completely permeable or if you suffer from a blockage in the digestive tract, an intestinal obstruction, a perforation in the digestive tract, a disorder of gastric emptying, a toxic colonic dilatation or toxic intestinal inflammation.

Dosage and application

Always use the product exactly as your doctor has told you.The usual adult dose is four sachets. One sachet is dissolved in one liter of water and drunk. When administered nasogastrically, 20-30 ml per minute is administered. No dosage changes are necessary in patients with impaired renal function.

If you take more than you should, you may experience severe diarrhea, which can lead to dehydration. In this case, you should drink plenty of fluids, especially fruit juices, and consult your doctor. If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If several hours have already passed since the time you were supposed to take it, contact your doctor or pharmacist.Bowel preparation must be completed at least one hour before the scheduled examination. Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have stopped using it.

Taking the solution

Open the bag and pour the powder into a suitable measuring container.First fill the container up to the 500 ml mark with lukewarm water. After shaking or stirring vigorously, fill the liquid up to the 1 liter mark and make sure that the powder has completely dissolved.Drink the solution by the glass every 10-15 minutes, with the first 2 liters consumed within about 2 hours. As a rule, bowel movements begin afterwards. If necessary, you can take a break and then take the next 1-2 liters in the same way or continue the bowel preparation the next morning.Bowel preparation is complete when you have used the entire 4 liters or the rectal discharge is clear. The solution tastes more pleasant when chilled.

The drinking solution can be taken the evening before or on the morning of the examination, or the entire drinking amount can be divided over both days.Usually, for surgical procedures and X-ray examinations of the colon, preparation is carried out the evening before; for endoscopic examinations, it can be done as needed. For patients with drinking difficulties, it is recommended to spread the total amount over 2 days.No solid food should be consumed at least two hours before intake until after the examination.Clear liquids such as tea or coffee without milk and fruit juices can be drunk during the preparation period.

The preparation causes diarrhea-like, watery stools. The first of these liquid bowel movements should occur within 1-2 hours after you start taking the medication. If bloating or pain occurs, administration should be slowed down or temporarily discontinued until improvement occurs. After taking the last liter, at least 1 hour should pass before the examination begins to ensure complete bowel emptying.

Patient information

Take special care when using it if you suffer from swallowing problems or reflux disease and are not fully conscious. In these situations there is a risk of aspiration or regurgitation, so careful monitoring is required. If you suffer from acute inflammatory bowel disease, the product may only be used with caution or after consulting your doctor. In high-risk patients, the doctor should closely monitor electrolyte and fluid balance.Children and adolescents under 18 years of age should not use the medicine.

The medicine should be used with caution in patients with heart failure, cardiovascular disease, cardiac arrhythmia, kidney dysfunction or liver disease.Cases of pulmonary edema following aspiration of macrogol lavage solution have been reported, requiring immediate treatment.Although not to be expected due to the isotonic composition of the product, electrolyte shifts have been reported in rare cases in high-risk patients. Therefore, the product should be used with caution in patients at risk of electrolyte imbalances. If bloating or pain occurs, the intake should be slowed down or temporarily stopped until the symptoms subside.Seizures associated with very low blood sodium levels have been reported in some patients.Patients may also develop confusion and disorientation due to low sodium levels. In elderly, frail or debilitated patients, the medicine should be used with caution and under medical supervision.Taking the prepared solution does not replace regular fluid intake;this must continue to be guaranteed.

The preparation has no known influence on the ability to drive or use machines.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.

Notes

If you have kidney dysfunction, no changes in quantity are necessary. If there is an increased risk, blood values should be monitored closely.
