Silimarit soft capsules are a herbal medicinal product for the supportive treatment of liver diseases. It contains a dry extract of milk thistle fruit. It is used in adolescents from 12 years of age and adults. Silimarit is used in chronic inflammatory liver diseases, liver cirrhosis and toxic liver damage caused by liver toxins. Treatment with the medicine is not a substitute for avoiding the causes that can damage the liver, such as alcohol. If jaundice occurs, a doctor should be consulted. The medicinal product is not suitable for the treatment of acute poisoning. The recommended dosage is 1 soft capsule 2 times a day for adolescents aged 12 years and over and adults. The capsules should be taken unchewed with sufficient liquid, preferably in the morning and evening. The duration of use of the medicinal product should be determined by the attending physician. Possible side effects are gastrointestinal complaints such as nausea and diarrhoea as well as hypersensitivity reactions of the skin such as skin rash, itching and shortness of breath. In case of an overdose, increased side effects may occur. No symptoms of poisoning have been observed and there is no specific antidote. In case of overdose, symptomatic therapy should be given. The medicinal product must not be used if there is hypersensitivity to the ingredients. In children under 12 years of age, the medicinal product should only be used after consultation with a doctor. Use is not recommended during pregnancy and breast-feeding. The medicinal product should be stored away from heat and light. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month indicated.
