Silimarit soft capsules are a herbal medicinal product for the supportive treatment of liver diseases. They contain a dry extract of milk thistle fruit. The capsules are used for the supportive treatment of chronic inflammatory liver diseases, liver cirrhosis and toxic liver damage. Drug therapy is not a substitute for avoiding the causes that damage the liver, such as alcohol. In case of jaundice, a doctor should be consulted. The medicinal product is not suitable for the treatment of acute poisoning. The recommended dosage for adolescents aged 12 years and over and adults is one soft capsule twice daily. The capsules should be taken unchewed with sufficient liquid. The duration of use is in principle not limited and should be determined by the attending physician. If symptoms persist, a doctor should be consulted. In case of an overdose, increased side effects may occur. A double dose should not be taken if a previous dose has been forgotten. Discontinuation of the medicine is usually safe. For risks and side effects, read the package leaflet and ask your doctor or pharmacist. The medicine should not be taken if there is hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients. It should also not be used during pregnancy or breast-feeding. In case of diabetes, the sugar content should be taken into account. Interactions with other medicinal products may occur, so consult a doctor or pharmacist before use.
