Instructions for use for Pangrol 20000 gastro-resistant tablets, 50 pcs
Description of the drug
This preparation contains digestive enzymes obtained from the pancreas of pigs. These enzymes, also called pancreatin, aid digestion in people with reduced or absent pancreatic function. No prescription is required for this product.
Area of application
The medicine is used to treat digestive disorders caused by inadequate pancreatic function. This can be the case in various diseases, such as cystic fibrosis, chronic pancreatitis or other disorders of exocrine pancreatic function.
Active ingredients and ingredients
The preparation contains 191.11 mg of porcine pancreas powder, which includes the following enzymes: 20,000 PhEur-E triacylglycerol lipase, amylase and proteases. The following excipients are also included: carmellose, sodium salt, cellulose, microcrystalline, crospovidone, Eudragit L 30 D-55, hypromellose, 133.34 mg lactose 1-water, macrogol 6000, magnesium stearate (vegetable), sodium hydroxide, polysorbate 80, silicon dioxide, highly disperse, Simeticon emulsion 30%, talc, titanium dioxide,Triethyl citrate, 1 mmol total sodium ion, bergamot aroma and vanilla aroma.
Contraindications
This medicine must not be taken if you are allergic to pancreas powder, pork or any of the other ingredients of this medicine. Its use is also contraindicated in cases of acute inflammation of the pancreas or an acute attack of chronic inflammation of the pancreas during the fully developed phase of the disease. However, in the decline phase during the dietary build-up, it may occasionally make sense to take it.
Dosage
Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you.The recommended dose is 1 to 2 tablets per meal, equivalent to 20,000 to 40,000 Ph.-Eur. units of lipase per meal. The dosage depends on the severity of the indigestion and can be increased under medical supervision.A daily enzyme dose of 15,000 to 20,000 units of lipase per kilogram of body weight should not be exceeded.Especially in patients with cystic fibrosis, the enzyme dose should not be higher than necessary for adequate fat absorption. The doctor should decide on the dosage for children.
The duration of use is not subject to any restrictions and depends on the course of the disease. If you don't feel better or even feel worse, contact your doctor. Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of the medicine is too strong or too weak.
If you take more than you should, drink plenty of water and talk to your doctor or pharmacist.Repeated high doses of pancreas powder can cause scarring or thickening of the intestinal wall, which can lead to intestinal blockage.Extremely high doses can lead to an increase in uric acid in the blood and urine, especially in cystic fibrosis patients.
Do not take a double dose if you forget to take the previous dose, but please continue treatment as recommended. If you stop taking it, you should expect that your symptoms may return. Please consult your doctor.
If you have any further questions about using the medicine, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Intake
Take the medicine whole with plenty of liquid, preferably in the middle of the meal. Please make sure that the tablets are swallowed whole, as the medicine loses its effect when chewed and the enzymes it contains can damage the mucous membrane if released into the oral cavity. You should drink plenty of fluids (water or juice).
Patient information
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking the product.A rare intestinal disorder called "fibrosing colonopathy" has been reported in patients with cystic fibrosis taking high-dose pancreas powder products.Tell your doctor if you suffer from cystic fibrosis and take more than 10,000 Ph. Eur. units of lipase per kilogram of body weight per day.As a precautionary measure, any unusual abdominal discomfort or changes in abdominal symptoms should be investigated.
If an allergic reaction occurs, stop your treatment and talk to your doctor. An allergic reaction could include itching, hives, or rash.In some cases a serious allergic reaction may occur, e.g. B. with severe skin reactions, swelling, feeling of warmth, dizziness and fainting, difficulty breathing, racing heart. These are symptoms of a serious, potentially life-threatening condition called "anaphylactic shock."If this occurs, call for medical help immediately.
The medicine has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines.
Pregnancy
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using any medicines. There is insufficient experience with the use of the drug in pregnant women. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should not take the product unless your doctor considers it absolutely necessary.
Notes
Care must be taken to swallow the preparation whole, as it contains active enzymes that, when released into the oral cavity, e.g.B. by chewing, which can lead to damage to the mucous membrane. The absorption of folic acid can be reduced by taking finished medicines containing pancreas powder, so additional folic acid intake may be necessary. The effect of the blood sugar-lowering active ingredients acarbose and miglitol can be reduced by taking the preparation at the same time.In individual cases, immediate-type allergic reactions and allergic reactions of the digestive tract have been described after taking pancreas powder. If this allergic reaction occurs, the preparation must be stopped immediately and a doctor must be consulted as soon as possible. In patients with cystic fibrosis, the formation of narrowings in the lower sections of the intestine has been described in individual cases after administration of high doses of pancreas powder. If symptoms are similar to intestinal obstruction, the possibility of intestinal strictures should also be taken into account. In patients with cystic fibrosis, increased uric acid excretion in the urine may occur, especially when taking high doses of pancreatin. Therefore, uric acid excretion in the urine should be controlled in these patients to avoid the formation of uric acid stones. The preparation must not be taken in acute pancreatitis or an acute attack of chronic pancreatitis during the florid phase of the disease.
