Description

Octadon P is a medicine for relieving pain, reducing fever and inhibiting inflammation.It contains a combination of paracetamol and caffeine.Paracetamol blocks the formation of certain messenger substances in the body and thus has a pain-relieving, fever-reducing and anti-inflammatory effect.The caffeine it contains supports the pain-relieving effect.

Octadon P is used for mild and moderate pain, such as headaches, toothaches, period pains and fever.

Area of application

Octadon P is a combination preparation of paracetamol, a painkiller, antipyretic medicine (analgesics and antipyretics), and caffeine.Octadon P is used for the symptomatic treatment of mild to moderate pain.

1 Tablet contains 350 mg paracetamol and 50 mg caffeine.Other ingredients are corn starch, pre-gelatinized starch (corn starch), carboxymethyl starch sodium (type A) (Ph.Eur.), highly dispersed silicon dioxide, stearic acid (Ph.Eur.), microcrystalline cellulose, crospovidone and povidone 25.

Application

Children and adolescents aged 12 and over (43 kg) and adults take 1 - 2 tablets as a single dose (corresponding to 350 - 700 mg paracetamol and 50 - 100 mg caffeine).The maximum daily dose is 8 tablets (corresponding to 2800 mg paracetamol and 400 mg caffeine).

If you have taken the maximum single dose, wait at least 6 hours before taking your next dose.

Take the tablets whole with enough liquid.Taking it after meals may result in a delayed onset of action.

Dosage

The following information applies unless your doctor has prescribed the medicine differently.Please adhere to the application instructions, otherwise the product will not work properly!

For short-term use of the drug without medical or dental supervision, adults and adolescents over 12 years of age take ½ - 1 tablet (corresponding to 175 to 350 mg paracetamol and 25 to 50 mg caffeine) up to 3 - 4 times daily.The maximum daily dose is 4 tablets (corresponding to 1400 mg paracetamol and 200 mg caffeine).

When used under medical or dental supervision, adults and adolescents over 12 years of age take 2 tablets (corresponding to 700 mg paracetamol and 100 mg caffeine) up to 3 - 4 times daily.The maximum daily dose is 8 tablets (corresponding to 2800 mg paracetamol and 400 mg caffeine).

In patients with liver or kidney dysfunction or Gilbert's syndrome, the dose must be reduced or the time interval extended.There is not enough evidence to determine the dosage for children under 12 years of age.

This medicine should not be taken for long periods of time or in higher doses without medical or dental advice.Without a doctor's prescription, the medicine should only be taken to relieve acute pain.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be used in cases of known hypersensitivity to paracetamol or caffeine, in the treatment of children under 12 years of age and in cases of severe liver dysfunction.

Patient information

The preparation should only be used with particular caution (i.e. with an extended dose interval or in a reduced dose) and under medical supervision in cases of liver dysfunction (e.g. due to chronic alcohol abuse, liver inflammation), kidney dysfunction and Gilbert's syndrome (Meulengracht disease).

The medicine should only be used under medical supervision in patients with a stomach or intestinal ulcer and patients with hyperthyroidism.

Long-term, improper, high-dose use of painkillers (analgesics) can cause headaches, which should not be treated with increased doses of the drug.

In general, the habitual use of painkillers, especially when several painkilling agents are combined, can lead to permanent kidney damage with the risk of kidney failure (analgesic nephropathy).

The same effects are not known for caffeine alone.An additional risk of nephropathy (kidney dysfunction) has not been proven in the combination of paracetamol and caffeine.

The preparation must not be taken by children under 12 years of age.

No special precautions are required regarding the ability to drive and use machines.Nevertheless, caution should always be exercised after taking painkillers.

Keep medicines out of the reach of children!

Pregnancy

The combination of paracetamol and caffeine should not be taken during pregnancy as the safety of its use has not been proven.

Both active ingredients pass into breast milk.During breastfeeding, the infant's well-being and behavior can be affected by caffeine ingested with breast milk, as the infant cannot detoxify caffeine.For this reason, paracetamol without added caffeine should be used during breastfeeding.

There are no known adverse consequences for the infant due to the mother taking paracetamol.If therapy is prolonged or higher doses are taken, breastfeeding should be discontinued.

Notes

If you have a high fever, signs of a secondary infection or symptoms persist for more than three days, you should consult your doctor.

In general, medicines containing paracetamol should only be used for a few days and not in increased doses without medical or dental advice.

With long-term, high-dose, improper use of analgesics, headaches may occur, which should not be treated with increased doses of the drug.

Please do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the pack or outer packaging.The expiry date refers to the last day of the specified month.
