Ambroxol acis® drops

Ambroxol has a triple effect: secretolytic, mucolytic and secretomotor.The drops are used for expectorant treatment in acute and chronic diseases of the bronchi and lungs with thick mucus.They liquefy the thick bronchial mucus, make it easier to cough up and provide effective symptom relief.The drops are to be taken in liquid such as water, tea or juice and contain a measuring cup for age-appropriate dosage.They are suitable for adults and children aged 2 and over.No prescription is required for this product.

Mode of action

Ambroxol acis drops stimulate the production of thin bronchial mucus and liquefy tough, adherent bronchial mucus.They also promote mucociliary clearance by activating the movement of the cilia of the respiratory ciliated epithelium.This increases the removal of bronchial mucus and makes it much easier to cough up.

Active ingredients / ingredients / ingredients

The active ingredient is ambroxol hydrochloride.1 ml solution contains 7.5 mg ambroxol hydrochloride.The other ingredients are methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate, propyl 4-hydroxybenzoate, sodium metabisulfite, sodium cyclamate, citric acid monohydrate, purified water and sodium hydroxide.

Contraindications

If you are known to be hypersensitive to any of the ingredients mentioned, the product should not be used.The medicine must not be taken if you are allergic to ambroxol hydrochloride.

Dosage

The drops are taken diluted in liquid after meals.The following information applies unless your doctor has prescribed the drops differently.Please adhere to the instructions for use, otherwise the medicine will not work properly.

Children up to 2 years of age take 1 ml of solution twice a day, corresponding to 15 mg of ambroxol hydrochloride per day.Children aged 2 to 5 years take 1 ml solution 3 times a day, corresponding to 22.5 mg ambroxol hydrochloride per day.Children aged 6 to 12 years take 2 ml of solution 2 to 3 times a day, corresponding to 30 to 45 mg of ambroxol hydrochloride per day.Adults and adolescents aged 12 and over usually take 4 ml of solution 3 times a day for the first 2 to 3 days, corresponding to 90 mg of ambroxol hydrochloride per day, then 4 ml of solution twice a day, corresponding to 60 mg of ambroxol hydrochloride per day.When dosing for adults, an increase in effectiveness may be possible by administering 60 mg ambroxol hydrochloride twice daily, corresponding to 120 mg ambroxol hydrochloride per day.

If your condition worsens or does not improve after 4 to 5 days, you should consult a doctor.

Intake

The drops are intended for oral use and are taken diluted in liquid such as water, tea or juice with or without meals.

Patient information

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.There have been reports of severe skin reactions associated with the use of ambroxol hydrochloride.If you develop a skin rash, please stop using the drops and seek medical advice immediately.Caution is advised in patients with histamine intolerance.Long-term therapy should be avoided in these patients as ambroxol can influence histamine metabolism and lead to symptoms of intolerance.

If you suffer from impaired kidney function or severe liver disease, the drops should only be used with particular caution.In severe kidney failure, an accumulation of ambroxol breakdown products formed in the liver must be expected.In the case of some rare diseases of the bronchi that are associated with excessive accumulation of secretions, the drops should only be used under medical supervision because of the possible blockage of secretions.The drops may only be used in children under 2 years of age on medical advice.

There are no special requirements regarding the ability to drive or use machines.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.Since there is currently no sufficient experience with humans, you should only use the drops during pregnancy on the orders of your doctor and only after the doctor has carefully weighed the benefits and risks.The active ingredient in the drops passes into the animal's mother's milk. Since there is currently no sufficient experience with humans, you should only take the drops while breastfeeding if your doctor tells you to.

Notes

When the drug is used in combination with anticough medication, a dangerous build-up of secretions can occur due to the restricted cough reflex, so the need for this combination treatment should be assessed with particular care.If kidney function is severely impaired, the maintenance dose should be reduced accordingly or the interval between applications extended.The expectorant effect of the drug is supported by fluid intake.

Other

Contains parabens (E 216 and E 218) and sodium metabisulfite.Ambroxol acis must not be taken if you are allergic to ambroxol hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.Please do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the pack or outer packaging.The expiry date refers to the last day of the specified month.
