Area of application

Lederlind Mundgel is used to treat infections in the oral cavity and throat area caused by yeast fungi such as Candida albicans or Candida glabrata.These infections are also known as mouth and throat thrush.

Active ingredients and ingredients

The oral gel contains nystatin as the active ingredient in a concentration of 100,000 IE per gram. The following excipients are also included: carbomer 974P, glycerol, hymetellosis, sodium calcium edetate, sodium hydroxide, purified water, methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate, propyl 4-hydroxybenzoate and orange flavor.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be used if you are allergic to nystatin, amphotericin B, natamycin or any of the other ingredients of the preparation.There is no experience with use in patients being treated with cytostatics.

Dosage

Always take the medicine exactly as directed.The usual dose is 1 gram of gel 3 to 6 times a day, in severe cases every 2 hours.Significant improvement usually occurs within a few days, but treatment should be continued for at least 2 days after the symptoms have subsided.Treatment should not last longer than 28 days.

If you take more than you should, no serious side effects are expected as the absorption of nystatin from the gastrointestinal tract is negligible.Do not take a double dose if you forget to take a dose.Do not stop taking it without consulting your doctor or pharmacist.

Intake

The mouth gel is taken, left in the mouth for a few minutes and then swallowed.To treat yeast infections in the mouth, the gel can also be applied to the affected areas with a cotton swab.For infants, it makes sense to put 1/2 to 1 gram of gel into the oral cavity before and after a meal.

Patient information

Due to the high osmolarity of nystatin, its use in very underweight and immature premature infants is not recommended.There is no experience with regard to impairment of the ability to drive or use machines.

Pregnancy

Nystatin is hardly absorbed after oral administration and does not cross the placental barrier.It is also not expected to pass into breast milk.The medicine can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding after weighing the benefits and risks.

Notes

No prescription is required for this product.If the treatment is not successful, the doctor should carry out an examination to confirm a fungal infection or to check the treatment.When treating fungal infections, all fungal foci on the skin and mucous membranes must be treated to avoid relapses.

The active ingredient nystatin is used to treat infections of the oral cavity and throat caused by yeast fungi.Nystatin changes the cell membranes of these fungi so that the permeability of the membrane is increased and cell components can escape.This leads to the death of the fungi.The positive thing is that the development of resistance has not yet been observed.

Lederlind® Mundgel can be used for infections of the oral cavity and throat caused by yeast fungi that are sensitive to nystatin.The gel can be used on newborns.Using the spatula or cotton swab included in the pack, the gel is distributed into the oral cavity after meals.The improvement often occurs just a few days after starting treatment and should continue for at least two more days after the symptoms have subsided.

Lederlind® oral gel can also be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Application

The recommended dose for newborns (0 to 4 weeks) and small children (1 month to 2 years) is 0.5-1 gram of gel (approx. 1.5-3 cm of gel strand) 4 times daily.For children aged 2 and over and adults, the dose is 1 gram of gel (approx. 3 cm of gel strand) 4 times a day.The gel is distributed throughout the oral cavity with a cotton swab after meals.Dentures and braces must also be coated with the gel.

During the treatment of oral thrush, a significant improvement occurs within just a few days.However, treatment should be continued for at least 2 days after the symptoms have subsided.The treatment must be carried out until culturally confirmed healing, but should not exceed 28 days.

Lederlind® Mundgel must not be used if you are allergic to nystatin, methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate, propyl 4-hydroxybenzoate or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.Please do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the pack or outer packaging.

Warnings

Lederlind Mundgel must not be used if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to nystatin, methyl or propyl 4-hydroxybenzoate or any of the other ingredients.
