Lederlind® Mundgel is a product for the treatment of yeast infections of the oral cavity and throat, known as oral and throat thrush.It is suitable for all ages, including newborns, and can also be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.No prescription is required for this product.

Active ingredient and mode of action

The active ingredient nystatin is highly effective against yeast fungi.Nystatin changes the cell membranes of the fungi, increasing permeability and allowing cell components to escape.This leads to the death of the fungi.To date, no development of resistance to nystatin has been observed.

Area of application

Lederlind® Mundgel is used for infections of the oral cavity and throat caused by proven nystatin-sensitive yeasts such as Candida albicans and Candida glabrata.

Ingredients

100000 IE Nystatin, 22.73 mg Nystatin, Carbomer 974P, glycerol, hymetellosis, sodium calcium edetate, sodium hydroxide, water, purified, methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate, propyl 4-hydroxybenzoate, orange flavor.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be used if you are hypersensitive to nystatin, amphotericin B, natamycin or any of the other ingredients of the preparation.There is no experience with its use in patients who are being treated with cytostatics.

Dosage

The usual dose is 1 gram of gel 3 to 6 times a day, in severe cases every 2 hours.Treatment should be continued for at least 2 days after the symptoms have subsided, but not longer than 28 days.In the event of an overdose, no side effects are to be expected as absorption from the gastrointestinal tract is negligible.If you forget to take a dose, do not take a double dose.Do not stop taking it without consulting your doctor or pharmacist.

Intake

The gel is left in the mouth for a few minutes and then swallowed.In addition, the affected areas can be smeared with a cotton swab onto which the gel has been applied.For infants, it makes sense to give 1/2 to 1 gram into the oral cavity before and after a meal to optimize the effect of nystatin.

Patient information

Due to the high osmolarity of nystatin, its use in very underweight and immature premature infants is not recommended.There is no experience with regard to impairment of the ability to drive or use machines.

Pregnancy

In therapeutic doses, nystatin is hardly absorbed via the intact skin or mucous membranes after oral administration and does not cross the placental barrier.It is also not expected to pass into breast milk.The medicine can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding after weighing the benefits and risks.

Notes

If the treatment is not successful, the doctor should carry out an examination to confirm a fungal infection or to check the treatment.When treating fungal infections, all fungal foci on the skin and mucous membranes must be treated to avoid relapses.

Application

The recommended dose is 0.5 to 1 gram of gel four times daily for newborns and small children and 1 gram of gel four times daily for children aged 2 years and over and adults.The gel is distributed throughout the oral cavity with a cotton swab after meals.Dentures and braces must also be coated with the gel.
