Pyrilax 10 mg suppositories are used for the short-term treatment of constipation and to facilitate bowel emptying in certain diseases and before medical procedures on the bowel. The medicinal product contains the active substance bisacodyl. It must not be used in cases of allergy to bisacodyl or other components of the medicinal product, intestinal obstruction or stricture, acute abdominal disorders, severe constipation associated with abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting or fever, disturbances of the water and electrolyte balance and in children under 10 years of age. A doctor or pharmacist should be consulted before use if there is chronic constipation or prolonged discomfort, chronic inflammatory bowel disease, or skin lesions or inflammation in the anal region. Excessive use may lead to fluid loss, potassium deficiency and recurrence of constipation. The dosage for adults and children over 10 years of age is 1 suppository once a day. Pyrilax suppositories are applied rectally and have a duration of action of 10 to 30 minutes. Possible side effects are abdominal pain, diarrhoea, nausea, pain and bleeding in the anal area. In case of overdose, diarrhoea, abdominal cramps and fluid loss may occur. The medicine should be stored out of the reach of children at room temperature. It contains the active ingredient bisacodyl and excipients such as silicon dioxide, maize starch and hard fat. Pyrilax is available in packs of 6 suppositories. It should only be used for a short time and a doctor should be consulted if symptoms persist for a long time.
