Active ingredients and ingredients

The active ingredient in this preparation is iodide, specifically as potassium salt.One tablet contains 262 micrograms of potassium iodide, which corresponds to 200 micrograms of iodide ions.In addition, the preparation contains the following excipients: light basic magnesium carbonate, microcrystalline cellulose, hypromellose, crospovidone (type A), hydrogenated castor oil and sodium cyclamate.

Area of application

The preparation is used to prevent iodine deficiency, for example to prevent the formation of a goiter in iodine deficiency areas or after the removal of an iodine deficiency goiter.It is also used to treat goiter, also known as diffuse euthyroid goiter, in newborns, children, adolescents and younger adults.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be taken if you are hypersensitive to potassium iodide or any of the other ingredients.The product should also not be used if you have manifest or latent hyperthyroidism.In the case of benign, hormone-producing tumors or uncontrolled hormone-producing areas of the thyroid, taking it in certain dosages is also not suitable.

Dosage

Always take the preparation exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.To prevent goiter in cases of iodine deficiency, the dosage varies depending on the age group.Infants and children receive 50 to 100 micrograms of iodine daily, adolescents and adults 100 to 200 micrograms.Pregnant and breastfeeding women should take 200 micrograms daily.To treat iodine deficiency goiter, the dosage is 100 to 200 micrograms daily for newborns, children and adolescents, and 300 to 500 micrograms daily for younger adults.The duration of use is determined by the attending physician.

Intake

Take the medicine after a meal with plenty of liquid, such as a glass of water.

There is no evidence that the medicine limits the ability to drive or work with machines and work without a secure footing.

There is an increased need for iodine during pregnancy and breastfeeding, so adequate iodine intake is particularly important.However, iodine and preparations containing iodine should only be taken after weighing up the benefits and risks if expressly prescribed by the doctor.
