Area of application

CitraFleet is used to cleanse the intestines before diagnostic examinations that require a well-cleaned intestine.This includes procedures such as colonoscopies or x-rays.The preparation is a powder that tastes and smells like lemons.Each sachet contains a mixture of two laxatives that are dissolved in water and drunk to thoroughly empty the bowels.A completely cleansed intestine is necessary so that the doctor or surgeon has a clear view of the intestinal lining.CitraFleet is intended for adults aged 18 and over.

Ingredients

Each CitraFleet sachet contains the following active ingredients: 10.97 g anhydrous citric acid, 3.5 g light magnesium oxide, 2.11 g magnesium ions, 10 mg sodium picosulfate.The following excipients are also included: potassium hydrogen carbonate, saccharin sodium, lemon flavor, maltodextrin, RRR-alpha-tocopherol.One sachet contains 5 mmol (195 mg) potassium and 1 mmol (23 mg) sodium.

Contraindications

CitraFleet should not be taken if you are allergic to sodium picosulfate, magnesium oxide, citric acid or any of the other ingredients.The preparation should also not be used in cases of congestive heart failure, retention of gastric contents, gastric or duodenal ulcers, intestinal obstruction, toxic colitis, toxic megacolon, nausea or vomiting, severe thirst, ascites, recent abdominal surgery, possible intestinal perforation or obstruction, active inflammatory bowel disease, rhabdomyolysis, severe renal impairment or hypermagnesemia.

Dosage

Always take CitraFleet exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.Treatment can be done in different ways: one sachet the evening before the examination and one sachet the morning of the examination day, or one sachet in the afternoon and one sachet the evening before the examination.The interval between doses should be at least 5 hours.Do not exceed the prescribed dose in 24 hours unless your doctor specifically recommends it.

Intake

Dissolve the contents of one sachet in a glass of water and drink the solution directly.Do not drink any more liquid afterwards to avoid diluting the product.Wait about 10 minutes and then drink a total of 1.5 to 2 liters of clear liquids, divided into smaller portions per hour.After taking the second sachet, drink another 1.5 to 2 liters of liquid.Do not eat or drink anything at least 2 hours before the examination.

Patient information

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking CitraFleet if you have recently had bowel surgery, have impaired kidney or heart function, have water or electrolyte imbalances, or are taking other medicines that could affect these.You should also be careful if you have epilepsy, low blood pressure, thirst, physical weakness, or previous sodium or potassium deficiency.After ingestion, frequent, thin stools may occur.Drink plenty of clear fluids to avoid dehydration.Do not drive or use machines if you feel tired or dizzy.

If you are pregnant, breast-feeding or planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking CitraFleet.
