Area of application

This medicine is a laxative used to cleanse the colon before clinical procedures such as endoscopy or x-rays.It is intended for adults and works by emptying the intestines.A typical application involves two large bags (“Bag A”) and two small bags (“Bag B”) all used together.The expected effect is watery diarrhea that clears the intestines of contents.

Active ingredients and ingredients

The active ingredients and ingredients of this medicine include:

Bag A contains: 100 g Macrogol 3350, 7.5 g sodium sulfate (anhydrous), 2.691 g sodium chloride and 1.015 g potassium chloride.

Bag B contains: 4.7 g ascorbic acid and 5.9 g sodium ascorbate.

One liter of the prepared solution contains the following electrolyte ion concentrations: 181.6 mmol sodium (of which a maximum of 56.2 mmol is absorbable), 59.8 mmol chloride, 52.8 mmol sulfate, 14.2 mmol potassium and 29.8 mmol ascorbate.

Additional excipients include lemon flavor (contains maltodextrin, citral, lemon oil, lime oil, xanthan gum, vitamin E), aspartame (E 951) and acesulfame potassium (E 950) as sweeteners.

Contraindications

This medicine must not be taken if you are allergic to the active ingredients or any of the other ingredients.Also in the case of an incomplete intestine, a blockage in the digestive tract, an intestinal obstruction, a breakthrough in the wall of the digestive tract, a disorder of gastric emptying, intestinal paralysis, phenylketonuria, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency or an acute colon dilatation due to chronic inflammatory bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis.

Dosage

The recommended dose for bowel preparation is a total of two liters of solution.One pack contains two clear outer bags, each containing two bags (A and B).The contents of each pair of bags are dissolved in water to obtain a 1 liter solution.One pack makes two liters of ready-to-drink solution.

It can be taken as a divided dose or as a single dose.If you give a divided dose, take one liter the evening before and another liter early in the morning of the day of the examination.For a single dose, take two liters the evening before or the morning of the day of the examination.The intake must be completed at least two hours before the start of the examination if general anesthesia is used, or at least one hour if general anesthesia is not used.

You must not eat any solid food from the time you start taking the medication until the end of the test.As soon as you start taking it, you should be near a toilet as watery stools will begin.This is normal and shows that the solution is working.

Intake

To prepare, open one of the outer bags and remove bags A and B. Pour the contents of both bags into a measuring cup and fill with water up to the 1 liter mark.Stir until the powder is completely dissolved and the solution is clear or slightly cloudy.Drink the first liter within one to two hours, drinking a glass every 10 to 15 minutes.Then prepare the second liter of solution from bags A and B of the remaining outer bag and drink these in the same way.

While taking it, you should drink another liter of clear liquid to avoid thirst and dehydration.Possible drinks include water, clear soups, fruit juices (without pulp), soft drinks, tea or coffee (without milk).

Patient information

If you are in poor general health or are suffering from a serious illness, you should pay particular attention to possible side effects.Tell your doctor if you have a tendency to reflux fluids, food or acid from the stomach, have problems swallowing, have kidney disease, heart failure, cardiovascular disease, thyroid disease, dehydration or a severe acute attack of inflammatory bowel disease.

If you have impaired consciousness, the medicine should only be used under medical supervision.If you experience sudden abdominal pain or rectal bleeding while taking it, contact your doctor immediately.

This medicine is not suitable for use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age.It has no influence on the ability to drive or use machines.

Pregnancy

Since there are no data on use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, the medicine should only be used if the doctor considers it absolutely necessary.Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before use.

Notes

No prescription is required for this product.Take other medicines at least one hour before starting or at least one hour after finishing treatment with this medicine, otherwise they could be flushed out of the digestive tract.You must not eat any solid food from the time you start taking the medication until the end of the test.You should continue to drink plenty of clear fluids while taking it, as the liquid content of the medicine does not replace your regular fluid intake.

The medicine contains 56.2 mmol of absorbable sodium per liter of ready-to-use solution, 14.2 mmol of potassium per liter and aspartame as a source of phenylalanine.Keep this in mind if you are on a low-sodium, low-potassium diet or have phenylketonuria.

Please do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the pack.The expiry date refers to the last day of the specified month.
