Directions for use of Hirudoid Gel 300 mg/100 g Hirudoid Gel 300 mg/100 g is used for the local treatment of blunt injuries (traumas), including haematomas and superficial phlebitis. It contains the active ingredient chondroitin polysulphate from bovine trachea. Before using Hirudoid gel, you should note that it should not be used if you are allergic to chondroitin polysulphate or other components of the gel, or have open wounds. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before use if you are using other medicines, are pregnant or breastfeeding. Apply the gel to the affected area of skin 2-3 times a day. Massage it in gently and avoid contact with the eyes, open wounds and mucous membranes. The duration of treatment depends on the type of complaint, but is usually up to 10 days for blunt injuries and one to two weeks for phlebitis. Like all medicines, Hirudoid Gel can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Possible side effects include skin redness and hypersensitivity reactions. The gel should be kept out of the reach of children and may be used for a maximum of 12 months after opening. Source: Package insert, as of 03/2023
