Heparin-ratiopharm® Gel is a medicine that inhibits blood clotting.It is used as a supportive treatment for superficial phlebitis if it cannot be treated with compression.However, the primary treatment measure for superficial phlebitis of the legs is compression treatment.No prescription is required for this product.

For the treatment of acute swelling following blunt injuries such as bruises, strains, sprains, bruises and bruises.It is also used to treat superficial phlebitis if it cannot be treated primarily with a pressure bandage.

Mode of action

The active ingredient heparin sodium in the gel has anticoagulant and anti-inflammatory properties.It promotes blood circulation in the affected tissue, which can reduce bruising and swelling more quickly.The gel base provides a pleasant cooling effect when applied, which helps relieve pain.

The gel contains the following active ingredients and excipients:

180000 IE Heparin, sodium salt (porcine), carbomer 980, isopropyl alcohol, lavender oil, PEG castor oil, hydrogenated, propylene glycol, trometamol, water, purified, citronella oil, propylene glycol, macrogol glycerol hydroxystearate, benzyl benzoate, citral, citronellol, coumarin, eugenol,Farnesol, Geraniol, Isoeugenol, D-Limonene and Linalool.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity reactions can occur to all medications and the medication must be discontinued immediately.If an allergy to the active ingredient or one of the other ingredients of the medicine is already known, it must not be used.In the case of phlebitis, the gel should not be massaged in, but rather applied liberally and rubbed in lightly.Due to the alcohol content, the gel should not be applied to mucous membranes, open or inflamed skin areas.It must not come into contact with the eyes as it may cause a burning sensation.The medicine must not be used in the event of an acute or known allergic drop in the number of blood platelets (thrombocytopenia type II) caused by heparin.

Application and dosage

Apply the gel evenly to the affected area 2 to 3 times daily.Spread it thinly over the area of the body to be treated.If you have phlebitis, you should not massage the gel in.The application should be continued until the symptoms have subsided.As a rule, a period of 1-2 weeks is sufficient for superficial phlebitis.In the case of acute swelling following blunt injuries, the duration of use should be up to 10 days.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, you should only take medication after consulting your doctor or pharmacist.Heparin cannot enter the child's circulation and does not pass into breast milk.There are no reports that topical use of heparin during pregnancy causes birth defects.Very high local doses (more than 180,000 IU) can lead to an increased tendency to bleeding.During childbirth, spinal anesthesia is absolutely prohibited for pregnant women who are being treated with anticoagulants.
