Instructions for use for BROMHEXIN 12 BC drops, 50 ml
BROMHEXIN 12 BC
Bromhexine is the short form for the active ingredient bromhexine hydrochloride. The number 12 indicates the potency in milligrams per milliliter, while BC stands for BERLIN-CHEMIE . BROMHEXIN 12 BC drops are a cough medicine that is used for acute and chronic diseases of the bronchi and lungs with thick mucus. The drops are both alcohol and sugar free, making them suitable for almost the entire family. However, BROMHEXIN 12 BC must not be used in children under 2 years of age as it contains mint oil, which can cause laryngeal spasm.
Area of application
BROMHEXIN 12 BC is used to support mucus dissolution in respiratory diseases such as acute and chronic diseases of the bronchi and lungs.
Mode of action
The active ingredient bromhexine hydrochloride in BROMHEXIN 12 BC stimulates the glands to produce thinner mucus, which loosens stuck mucus in the respiratory tract. In addition, bromhexine hydrochloride promotes the formation of enzymes that chop up the long-chain substances in mucus, making it less tough.
Active ingredients / ingredients / ingredients
Each milliliter of BROMHEXIN 12 BC contains 12 mg of bromhexine hydrochloride, which is equivalent to 10.94 mg of bromhexine.Other ingredients include citric acid (anhydrous), mint oil, propylene glycol and purified water.
Contraindications
BROMHEXIN 12 BC must not be taken if you are hypersensitive to bromhexine hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients. The medicine should also not be used if you have stomach or duodenal ulcers, as it can affect the mucous membrane barrier of the stomach and intestines. In addition, it must not be taken by infants and small children under 2 years of age or by patients with bronchial asthma or other respiratory diseases with pronounced hypersensitivity of the airways, as inhalation of the drug can cause shortness of breath or trigger an asthma attack.
Dosage
Children under 6 years of age receive 8 drops BROMHEXIN 12 BCthree times a day if necessary.Children and adolescents aged 6 to 14 as well as patients weighing less than 50 kg take 16 drops three times a day.Adults and adolescents aged 14 and over take 16 to 33 drops three times a day.The drops should be taken undiluted and with sufficient liquid three times a day, i.e. morning, afternoon and evening, after meals.
Intake
The drops are intended to be taken orally. The expectorant effect of the drug can be supported by adequate fluid intake.
Patient information
Very rarely, severe skin reactions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome and Lyell syndrome can occur in connection with the use of bromhexine. If changes to the skin and mucous membranes occur, medical advice should be sought immediately and the use of the drug stopped. In the case of some rare bronchial diseases that are associated with excessive accumulation of secretions, BROMHEXIN 12 BC should only be used under medical supervision. If you have impaired kidney function or severe liver disease, the medicine should be used at longer intervals or in a reduced dose.If kidney function is severely impaired, an accumulation of the drug's breakdown products formed in the liver must be expected.Liver function should be monitored occasionally, particularly during long-term treatment. The ability to drive and use machines is not affected. No prescription is required for this product.
Pregnancy
Before taking or using any medication, you should always ask a doctor or pharmacy for advice.Since there is no experience with the use of BROMHEXIN 12 BC during pregnancy, the medicine may only be taken after a doctor has carefully weighed the benefits and risks.Bromhexine passes into breast milk, and since the effects on the infant have not been sufficiently studied, the drug must not be taken during breastfeeding.
Notes
While taking the product, make sure you drink enough fluids to promote mucus solution.
Other
BROMHEXIN 12 BC contains mint oil, which may cause laryngeal spasm in infants and children under 2 years of age. When using BROMHEXIN 12 BC and cough suppressants (antitussives) in combination, a dangerous accumulation of secretions can occur due to the restricted cough reflex, so that the indication for this combination treatment should be made with particular care.
