Area of application

The medicine contains an extract of ginkgo leaves.It is used for the symptomatic treatment of organic brain-related performance disorders as part of an overall therapeutic concept for dementia syndromes.These syndromes are manifested by a decrease or loss of acquired mental abilities, in particular by memory impairment, difficulty concentrating, depressed mood, dizziness, ringing in the ears and headaches.The individual response to medication cannot be predicted.

Before treatment with ginkgo extract is started, it should be clarified whether the symptoms of the disease are not due to an underlying disease that requires specific treatment.The medicine is also used to extend the pain-free walking distance in cases of arterial occlusive disease in the limbs, known as "intermittent claudication", as part of physical therapeutic measures, in particular walking training.It can also be used for dizziness and to support the treatment of ringing in the ears as a result of circulatory problems or age-related regression processes.

The active ingredient of the drug is ginkgo leaf dry extract, extracted with acetone 60% (m/m).The most important ingredients are terpene lactones, including ginkgolides A, B and C as well as bilobalides.Other ingredients include ginkgolic acids and ginkgo flavonoid glycosides.As excipients, the drug contains glycerol 85%, propylene glycol, saccharin sodium 2-water and purified water.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be taken if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to Ginkgo biloba or any of the other ingredients.It should also not be used during pregnancy.

Dosage

Always take the medicine exactly as directed.Please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.The usual dose for adults aged 18 and over is 20 to 40 drops 3 times a day, corresponding to 40 to 80 mg of ginkgo extract 3 times a day.For peripheral arterial disease, dizziness and to support the treatment of ringing in the ears, 40 drops can also be taken twice a day, corresponding to 80 mg of ginkgo extract twice a day.It is taken morning, midday and evening or morning and evening, depending on the prescription.

The duration of treatment should be at least 8 weeks for organic brain-related performance disorders, 6 weeks for peripheral arterial disease, 6 to 8 weeks for dizziness and at least 12 weeks for ringing in the ears.Symptoms of overdose are not yet known.If you have taken more than you should, please notify your doctor.If you forget to take a dose, do not take a double dose next time, but continue taking it as prescribed.

Intake

The drops are taken undiluted or in a little water.It can be taken regardless of meals.

Patient information

Particular caution is required when taking the drug.There is no sufficient study available for use in people under 18 years of age.The medicine is not intended for use in children and adolescents.

Pregnancy

Since there is evidence that preparations containing ginkgo could increase the risk of bleeding, this medicine must not be taken during pregnancy.It should also not be used during breastfeeding, as there are no sufficient studies and it is not known whether the ingredients of the extract pass into breast milk.

Application

For dementia syndrome, adults aged 18 and over should take 20 to 40 drops 3 times a day.To treat peripheral arterial disease, dizziness and to support the treatment of ringing in the ears, adults aged 18 years and over can take 20 drops 3 times a day or 40 drops 2 times a day.The duration of the intake can be found on the package insert.

Ingredients
