Area of application

The medicine contains an extract of ginkgo leaves.It is used for the symptomatic treatment of organic brain-related performance disorders as part of an overall therapeutic concept for dementia syndromes.These syndromes are manifested by a decrease or loss of acquired mental abilities, with the main symptoms being memory impairment, difficulty concentrating, depressive moods, dizziness, ringing in the ears and headaches.

The individual response to medication cannot be predicted.Before treatment with ginkgo extract is started, it should be clarified whether the symptoms of the disease are not due to an underlying disease that requires specific treatment.

In addition, the medicine is used to extend the pain-free walking distance in cases of arterial occlusive disease in the limbs, also known as “intermittent claudication”, as part of physical therapeutic measures, in particular walking training.It can also be used for dizziness caused by circulatory disorders or age-related regression processes, as well as to support the treatment of ringing in the ears as a result of circulatory disorders or age-related regression processes.

The active ingredient of this medicine is ginkgo leaf dry extract extracted with acetone 60% (m/m).The main ingredients are terpene lactones, including ginkgolides A, B and C as well as bilobalide.Other ingredients include ginkgolic acids and ginkgo flavonoid glycosides.The preparation contains glycerol 85%, propylene glycol, saccharin sodium 2-water and purified water as excipients.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be taken if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to Ginkgo biloba or any of the other ingredients.It must also not be used during pregnancy.

Dosage

Always take the medicine exactly as directed.Please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the usual dose for adults aged 18 and over for the symptomatic treatment of organic brain-related performance disorders is 20 to 40 drops 3 times a day, which corresponds to 40 to 80 mg of ginkgo extract 3 times a day.

To extend pain-free walking distance in cases of peripheral arterial disease and dizziness and to support the treatment of ringing in the ears, adults aged 18 and over should take 20 drops 3 times a day (equivalent to 40 mg of ginkgo extract 3 times a day) or 40 drops 2 times a day (equivalent to 80 mg of ginkgo extract 2 times a day).

It is taken 3 times a day in the morning, midday and evening, and 2 times a day in the morning and evening.Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of this medicine is too strong or too weak.

The medicine is not intended for use in people under 18 years of age.

The duration of treatment should be at least 8 weeks.In the case of brain-organic performance disorders, after a treatment period of 3 months, the doctor must check whether continued treatment is still justified.In the case of peripheral arterial disease, an improvement in walking distance requires a treatment period of at least 6 weeks.In the case of dizziness, use over a period longer than 6 to 8 weeks does not improve the treatment result.If you have ringing in the ears, supportive treatment should last for at least 12 weeks.If there is no success after 6 months, this can no longer be expected even with longer treatment.

Symptoms of overdose are not yet known.The side effects mentioned may increase if you take a larger amount of the medicine.Please notify your doctor.This can decide on any necessary measures.

If you forget to take the medicine, do not take twice as much next time, but continue taking it as prescribed by your doctor or as described here.

Intake

The drops are taken undiluted or in a little water.It can be taken regardless of meals.

Patient information

Particular caution is required when taking the medicine.There are no sufficient studies on the use of this medicine in the age group under 18 years.It should therefore not be used in children and adolescents under the age of 18.

Pregnancy

Since there is some evidence that preparations containing ginkgo could increase the risk of bleeding, this medicine must not be taken during pregnancy.This medicine should not be used during breastfeeding as there are no sufficient studies.It is not known whether the ingredients of the extract pass into breast milk.
