Venoplant® retard S: Well tolerated, also thanks to the retard effect

Venoplant® retard S is an effective herbal medicine that is well tolerated.The main active ingredient aescin, which is contained in the horse chestnut seed dry extract, can irritate the gastric mucosa in high concentrations.To avoid this, Venoplant® retard S is formulated as a sustained-release drug.This special tablet releases the active ingredient in a delayed manner, meaning that the majority of the escin is only released in the small intestine and the stomach is spared.

Venoplant® retard S is generally well tolerated.However, as with all medicines, side effects such as gastrointestinal complaints, headaches, dizziness, itching and allergic reactions can occur.

Area of application

Venoplant® retard S is used to treat symptoms of diseases of the leg veins, also known as chronic venous insufficiency.These symptoms may include swollen legs, varicose veins, a feeling of heaviness and tension, pain, itching, tiredness in the legs and leg cramps.

The ingredients of Venoplant® retard S include 220.85 mg horse chestnut seed dry extract, extractant: ethanol 50% (m/m), and 21 mg protoaescigenin.In addition, it contains various excipients such as calcium hydrogen phosphate, crospovidone, Dimeticon 350, iron(III)hydroxide oxide x-water, iron(III)oxide, Eudragit RL, Eudragit RS, hypromellose, macrogol 4000, magnesium stearate (vegetable), sodium hydroxide, polyethylene glycol (5) stearyl ether, polysorbate 80, povidone K25,Saccharin sodium, silicon dioxide, colloidal, talc, titanium dioxide, triethyl citrate, vanillin and sorbic acid.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be taken by patients with known hypersensitivity to horse chestnut seeds or any of the other ingredients.

Dosage

The recommended dosage of Venoplant® retard S is one tablet each morning and evening before meals, taken with a little liquid.Initial treatment success may only occur after a treatment period of 4 weeks.Long-term treatment is possible after consulting a doctor.

Intake

The prolonged-release tablets are taken whole in the morning and evening before meals with a little liquid.

Patient information

Particular caution is required when taking it if there is inflammation of the skin, superficial inflammation of the veins or hardening of the subcutaneous tissue, severe pain, skin ulcers, sudden swelling of one or both legs and if the function of the heart or kidneys is impaired.In these cases, a doctor should be consulted.Taking it does not replace other preventive measures or treatment measures such as cold water or wearing medically prescribed support stockings.

There are no sufficient studies on the effect on the ability to drive and operate machines.

Pregnancy

The medicine must not be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding as there are no sufficient studies.

Venoplant® retard S should be stored in a cool and dry place, not above 25 °C.It must be kept out of the reach of children.
