Vitamin B12-ratiopharm N solution for injection is a vitamin preparation containing cyanocobalamin. It is used to treat a vitamin B12 deficiency that cannot be corrected by dietary means. Vitamin B12 deficiency can manifest itself in various clinical pictures, such as hyperchromic macrocytic megaloblastic anaemia and funicular spinal disease. Causes of vitamin B12 deficiency can be malnutrition, malabsorption in the intestine, congenital transport disorders and other factors. Dosing is usually one ampoule daily at the beginning of treatment and monthly thereafter. The drug is usually administered intramuscularly, but can also be given intravenously or subcutaneously. The duration of use depends on the symptoms and can be lifelong. The medicine should be kept away from light and out of the reach of children. There are no known overdose symptoms. However, a doctor should be consulted before use if unpleasant side effects occur during treatment. The medicinal product is not suitable for people who are hypersensitive to the ingredients. During pregnancy and lactation, higher amounts of the medicinal product may be used without adverse effects on the child.
