Area of application

ASS ratiopharm 500mg is a painkiller, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory drug that belongs to the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs/analgesics.It is used for mild to moderate pain, such as headaches or period pain, as well as fever.No prescription is required for this product.

In children and adolescents with feverish illnesses, the medicine should only be used on medical advice and only if other measures do not work.Prolonged vomiting can be a sign of Reye's syndrome, a very rare but life-threatening disease that requires immediate medical attention.

Mode of action

The active ingredient acetylsalicylic acid has analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory properties.The mechanism of action is based on the irreversible inhibition of cyclooxygenase, an enzyme involved in the formation of prostaglandins.These endogenous messenger substances mediate pain and inflammatory reactions.Through the same mechanism, acetylsalicylic acid also inhibits platelet aggregation and thus improves the flow properties of the blood.

Contraindications

ASS ratiopharm 500mg should not be used in cases of known hypersensitivity to one of the ingredients, acute stomach and intestinal ulcers, pathologically increased bleeding tendency, liver and kidney failure, severe, uncontrolled heart muscle weakness, allergic reactions and asthma attacks when taking salicylates or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and in combination with methotrexate 15 mg or more per week.

Particular caution and medical supervision of the use of the drug is required in the event of hypersensitivity to other anti-inflammatory drugs/anti-rheumatic drugs or other allergenic substances, existing allergies, asthma, hay fever, nasal mucous membrane swelling, chronic respiratory diseases, simultaneous therapy with anticoagulants, stomach or intestinal ulcers or stomach or intestinal bleeding in the past, oxalate urolithiasis, iron storage diseases, impaired liver and kidney function, patients withCerebral hemorrhages, patients with gout and before operations.

Dosage

The tablets should be taken with plenty of liquid (e.g. a glass of water) and not on an empty stomach.Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the recommended dosage is as follows: Children aged 6-14 years can take ½ - 1 tablet 3 times a day.Adolescents and adults can take 1-2 tablets 3 times a day.

The single dose can be taken at intervals of 4-8 hours up to 3 times a day if necessary.Do not take this medicine for more than 4 days without medical or dental advice.

Intake

Pregnancy

Application

Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the usual dose is: Children 6 to 14 years: As a single dose ½ - 1 tablet (corresponding to 250 - 500 mg acetylsalicylic acid), the maximum total daily dose is 1½ - 3 tablets (corresponding to 750 - 1500 mg acetylsalicylic acid).Adolescents and adults: As a single dose, 1 - 2 tablets (corresponding to 500 - 1000 mg acetylsalicylic acid), the maximum total daily dose is 3 - 6 tablets (corresponding to 1500 - 3000 mg acetylsalicylic acid).
