Area of application

ASS-ratiopharm® 500 mg tablets are a pain-relieving, fever-reducing and anti-inflammatory medicine.They are used for mild to moderate pain, such as headaches or period pain, as well as fever.In children and adolescents with feverish illnesses, the medicine should only be used on medical advice and only if other measures do not work.

Mode of action

Acetylsalicylic acid has pain-relieving, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory properties.The mechanism of action is based on the irreversible inhibition of cyclooxygenase, an enzyme involved in the formation of prostaglandins.These messenger substances mediate pain and inflammatory reactions in the body.Through the same mechanism, acetylsalicylic acid also inhibits platelet aggregation and thus improves the flow properties of the blood.

1 Tablet of ASS-ratiopharm® 500 mg contains 500 mg acetylsalicylic acid as an active ingredient.Other ingredients include corn starch, microcrystalline cellulose and cellulose powder.

Contraindications

ASS-ratiopharm® 500 mg tablets should not be used in cases of known hypersensitivity to one of the ingredients, acute stomach and intestinal ulcers, pathologically increased bleeding tendency, liver and kidney failure, severe, uncontrolled heart muscle weakness, allergic reactions and asthma attacks when taking salicylates or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and in combination with methotrexate 15 mg or more per week.

Particular caution and medical supervision of the use of the drug is required in the event of hypersensitivity to other anti-inflammatory drugs or allergenic substances, existing allergies, asthma, hay fever, nasal mucous membrane swelling, chronic respiratory diseases, simultaneous therapy with anticoagulants, stomach or intestinal ulcers or stomach or intestinal bleeding in the past, oxalate urolithiasis, iron storage diseases, impaired liver and kidney function, patients with cerebral hemorrhages, patients with goutas well as before operations.

The use of ASS-ratiopharm® 500 mg tablets during pregnancy and breastfeeding is contraindicated.Medicines containing acetylsalicylic acid may only be used in children and adolescents with febrile illnesses on medical advice and only if other measures do not work.

Dosage

Please take the tablets with plenty of liquid, such as a glass of water, and not on an empty stomach.Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the recommended dosage is as follows: Children aged 6-14 years can take ½ - 1 tablet 3 times a day.Adolescents and adults can take 1-2 tablets 3 times a day.The single dose can be taken at intervals of 4-8 hours up to 3 times a day if necessary.Do not take this medicine for more than 4 days without medical or dental advice.

Intake

The tablets are intended to be taken orally.Take the medicine whole with plenty of liquid, such as a glass of water, and not on an empty stomach.

Patient information

Particular caution is required when taking the preparation when taken together with medicines that contain acetylsalicylic acid or with other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, hypersensitivity to other painkillers or anti-inflammatory drugs or other allergenic substances, existing allergies, asthma, hay fever, swollen nasal mucous membranes or chronic respiratory diseases, simultaneous treatment with anticoagulant drugs, stomach or intestinal ulcers orHistory of gastrointestinal bleeding, impaired liver function, impaired kidney function or reduced cardiac and vascular blood flow, uncontrolled hypertension, diabetes mellitus or when taking diuretics at the same time and before and after operations.Acetylsalicylic acid may further increase the risk of kidney dysfunction and acute kidney failure. In patients with severe glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, acetylsalicylic acid can cause an accelerated breakdown of red blood cells or a certain form of anemia.If you take painkillers long-term, headaches can occur, which can lead to repeated use and thus cause the headache to continue.Habitual use of painkillers can lead to permanent kidney damage with the risk of kidney failure.In low doses, acetylsalicylic acid reduces uric acid excretion and can trigger a gout attack in patients at risk.The preparation belongs to a group of medicines that can affect women's fertility.This effect is reversible after discontinuation of the drug.

Children and adolescents: The medicine should only be used in children and adolescents with febrile illnesses on medical instructions and only if other measures do not work.If these illnesses cause prolonged vomiting, it may be a sign of Reye's syndrome, a very rare but life-threatening disease that requires immediate medical attention.

Driving and using machines: No special precautions are required.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Pregnancy: You should not take the medicine in the 1st and 2nd trimester of pregnancy.Therefore, be sure to consult your doctor before taking it.In the last 3 months of pregnancy you must not take acetylsalicylic acid, the active ingredient of the preparation, due to an increased risk of complications for mother and child before and during birth.

Breastfeeding: The active ingredient acetylsalicylic acid and its breakdown products pass into breast milk in small quantities.Since adverse consequences for the infant have not yet been reported, interruption of breastfeeding is not necessary if the recommended dose is used occasionally.However, if you use it for a long time or take high doses, you should stop breastfeeding.

Fertility: The product belongs to a group of medicines that can affect women's fertility.This effect is reversible after discontinuation of the drug.

Notes

Do not take ASS-ratiopharm® 500 mg tablets on an empty stomach!If you have pain or fever, do not use it for longer than stated in the package leaflet without medical advice!

If your symptoms worsen or there is no improvement after 3 to 4 days, you should definitely see a doctor.Please do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the pack or outer packaging.The expiry date refers to the last day of the specified month.

Application

Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the usual dose is: Children 6 to 14 years: As a single dose ½ - 1 tablet (corresponding to 250 - 500 mg acetylsalicylic acid), the maximum total daily dose is 1½ - 3 tablets (corresponding to 750 - 1500 mg acetylsalicylic acid).Adolescents and adults: As a single dose, 1 - 2 tablets (corresponding to 500 - 1000 mg acetylsalicylic acid), the maximum total daily dose is 3 - 6 tablets (corresponding to 1500 - 3000 mg acetylsalicylic acid).The single dose can be taken at intervals of 4 - 8 hours up to 3 times a day if necessary.Take ASS-ratiopharm® 500 mg whole without chewing with plenty of liquid and not on an empty stomach.
