ASS-ratiopharm® PROTECT 100 mg gastro-resistant tablets contain the active ingredient acetylsalicylic acid.This medication is used to prevent heart attacks, strokes, and other diseases caused by blood clots.It is particularly suitable for patients with unstable angina pectoris, after cardiac surgery or in the precursor stages of cerebral infarction.The tablets are covered with a special shell that only releases the active ingredient in the intestine and is gentle on the stomach.

Area of application

Platelets, small cells in the blood, play an important role in blood clotting.When these cells stick or clump together, blood clots can form, blocking blood flow and cutting off oxygen supply.This can lead to a heart attack in the heart region and a stroke in the brain region.After cardiac surgery, there is an increased risk of blood clots forming and temporary cerebral insufficiency (TIA). ASS-ratiopharm® PROTECT 100 mg enteric-coated tablets prevent blood platelets from sticking together, improve the flowability of the blood and prevent the formation of blood clots.They are also used to treat unstable angina and prevent cerebral infarction.The tablets are enteric-coated, so that the active ingredient is only released in the intestines and the stomach is not put under strain.

Each tablet contains 100 mg of acetylsalicylic acid as the active ingredient.In addition, the preparation contains the following excipients: microcrystalline cellulose, Eudragit L 30 D-55, potato starch, 60 mg lactose 1-water, highly disperse silicon dioxide, talc and triacetin.

Contraindications

The medicine must not be taken if you are hypersensitive to acetylsalicylic acid or any of the other ingredients.The medication should also not be used in cases of acute stomach and intestinal ulcers, pathologically increased bleeding tendencies, liver and kidney failure, or severe heart muscle weakness that has not been adequately treated.In addition, it must not be taken in the last three months of pregnancy in a dosage of more than 150 mg acetylsalicylic acid per day.

Dosage

Always take the medicine exactly as your doctor has told you.The usual dose is one tablet per day (100 mg acetylsalicylic acid) for unstable angina pectoris, acute myocardial infarction and to prevent cerebral infarctions.To prevent another heart attack after the first heart attack, three tablets per day (300 mg acetylsalicylic acid) are recommended.After surgery on arterial blood vessels, one tablet per day is also recommended.The best time to start treatment after aortocoronary vein bypass (ACVB) appears to be 24 hours after surgery.The medicine is intended for long-term use and the duration of use is decided by the treating doctor.

Intake

Please take the enteric-coated tablets whole, preferably before a meal, with plenty of liquid (e.g. a glass of water).To treat an acute heart attack, the first enteric-coated tablet should be bitten or chewed.

Patient information

Particular caution is required when taking the preparation if you are hypersensitive to other painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs, suffer from bronchial asthma, hay fever or chronic respiratory diseases, are taking anticoagulant drugs at the same time or have a history of stomach and intestinal ulcers.You should inform your doctor or dentist before operations, as bleeding time may be prolonged.Acetylsalicylic acid can reduce uric acid excretion and trigger a gout attack in patients at risk.If there is an injury, it may take a little longer for bleeding to stop.The medicine should not be used for a longer period of time or in higher doses without consulting your doctor.Children and adolescents should only take the medication if directed by a doctor.

Pregnancy

If you become pregnant while taking this medication, please notify your doctor immediately.In the first and second trimesters of pregnancy, you may only take the product on the orders of your doctor.In the last three months of pregnancy, you should not take acetylsalicylic acid in a dosage of more than 150 mg per day.The active ingredient acetylsalicylic acid and its breakdown products pass into breast milk in small quantities. With a daily dose of up to 150 mg, interruption of breastfeeding is usually not necessary.At higher doses, breastfeeding should be discontinued.

ASS-ratiopharm® PROTECT 100 mg gastro-resistant tablets are not suitable for the treatment of pain.The preparation contains lactose.No prescription is required for this product.Please do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the pack or outer packaging.The expiry date refers to the last day of the specified month.
