Description of the preparation

This preparation contains a mixture of enzymes known as pancreas powder, also called pancreatin.It aids digestion by using enzymes from pig pancreas.The preparation consists of small enteric-coated microfilm tablets that slowly release the pancreas powder in the intestine.No prescription is required for this product.

Area of application

This medicine is used to treat exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, in which the pancreas does not produce enough enzymes to digest food.It can be used on children, adolescents and adults.Treatment improves symptoms such as greasy stools, abdominal pain, flatulence and stool frequency.

How the medicine works

The enzymes in this supplement help digest food as it passes through the intestines.It should be taken during or immediately after a meal or snack to allow the enzymes to mix thoroughly with the food.

Active ingredients and ingredients

The preparation contains 303.5 mg of porcine pancreas powder, which contains 36,000 PhEur-E triacylglycerol lipase, amylase and proteases.In addition, it contains various excipients such as microcrystalline cellulose, crospovidone, iron hydroxide, iron oxide, Eudragit L 30 D-55, gelatin, magnesium stearate, montan glycol wax, sodium dodecyl sulfate, polysorbate 80, highly disperse silicon dioxide, Simeticon emulsion, Simeticon, methylcellulose, sorbic acid, water, talc, titanium dioxide, triethyl citrate and23 mg total sodium ions.

Contraindications

The product must not be taken if you are allergic to pancreatin or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

Dosage

Always take this medicine exactly as described or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.The dosage is given in lipase units and depends on the severity of your disease, your weight, your diet and the fat content in your stool.If you continue to have fatty stools or other stomach or intestinal problems, talk to your doctor as your dosage may need to be adjusted.

Dosage instructions

For children under 4 years of age, the usual starting dose is 1,000 lipase units per kilogram of body weight per meal; for children over 4 years of age, 500 lipase units per kilogram of body weight per meal.For adolescents and adults, weight-based enzyme dosage begins at 500 lipase units per kilogram of body weight per meal.The usual dose for a meal is between 25,000 and 80,000 lipase units, and half that for a snack.The total daily dose should not exceed certain limits.

Overdose and missed doses

If you take more than you should, drink plenty of water and talk to your doctor or pharmacist.If you forget to take a dose, take the next dose as usual with the next meal.Do not stop taking it without first speaking to your doctor.

Intake

Always take this medicine during or immediately after a meal or snack.The capsules should be swallowed whole with sufficient liquid and should not be crushed or chewed.If it is difficult to swallow the capsules, you can open them carefully and swallow the microfilm-coated tablets whole with sufficient liquid.

Patient information

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product.A rare intestinal disorder called fibrosing colonopathy may occur in patients with cystic fibrosis.Allergic reactions should be treated immediately.The medicine has no effect on the ability to drive or use machines.

Other

In cystic fibrosis, taking large amounts of the drug can lead to narrowing of the gastrointestinal tract and increased uric acid excretion in the urine.Uric acid excretion should be controlled to avoid the formation of uric acid stones.
