Areas of application

ASS 100 mg HEXAL tablets are used as part of standard therapy to treat acute myocardial infarction (heart attack) and to prevent recurrent myocardial infarction.They are also used in the treatment of unstable angina pectoris.Its use is also indicated for the prevention of cerebral infarction and transient ischemic attacks (TIA) after preliminary stages as well as after arterial vascular surgery or interventional procedures.

Mode of action

Acetylsalicylic acid, the active ingredient in ASS 100 mg HEXAL tablets, is an inhibitor of cyclooxygenase.In addition to other effects, this active ingredient irreversibly inhibits platelet aggregation, improves the flow properties of the blood and thus helps to prevent vascular occlusions.

Active ingredients and ingredients

Each tablet ASS 100 mg HEXAL contains 100 mg acetylsalicylic acid as active ingredient.The other ingredients include corn starch, stearic acid, colloidal silica and microcrystalline cellulose.

Dosage and intake

ASS 100 mg HEXAL tablets should be taken exactly as directed by a doctor.The dosage varies depending on the area of application, for example one tablet daily for unstable angina pectoris or to prevent cerebral infarctions.The tablets should be swallowed whole with plenty of liquid after a meal.In the event of an acute heart attack, the first tablet should be bitten.No prescription is required for this product.

Side effects

Contraindications

ASS 100 mg HEXAL tablets should not be used in cases of known hypersensitivity to one of the ingredients, acute stomach and intestinal ulcers, pathologically increased bleeding tendency, liver and kidney failure, severe, uncontrolled heart muscle weakness, allergic reactions and asthma attacks when taking salicylates or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and in combination with methotrexate 15 mg or more per week.

Patient information

The duration of use is decided by the treating doctor.At low doses, acetylsalicylic acid can reduce uric acid excretion, which can trigger a gout attack in at-risk patients.The medication is not suitable for pain treatment and should not be taken on an empty stomach.Alcohol should be avoided while taking it.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the medication should only be taken after consultation with a doctor or pharmacist.In the first six months of pregnancy, acetylsalicylic acid should not be taken, and in the last three months it is not allowed, as it can prolong pregnancy and inhibit labor.An increased tendency to bleed can be observed in mother and child.Acetylsalicylic acid passes into breast milk in small amounts, but for short-term use, interruption of breastfeeding is usually not necessary.

ASS 100 mg HEXAL tablets are not intended for pain treatment.The doctor or dentist should be informed before operations.Dizziness and ringing in the ears may be signs of overdose, especially in children and elderly patients.If the recommended dosage is exceeded, liver values can increase, which is why regular monitoring of liver values is necessary, especially in children.The drug can trigger a gout attack if uric acid levels are elevated.
