Area of application

Hemolax 5 mg is a laxative from the triarylmethane group.It is used for the short-term treatment of constipation and conditions that require easier bowel movements.The active ingredient bisacodyl prevents water and salts from being removed from the intestinal contents and promotes the influx of water and salts into the intestines.As a result, the intestinal contents increase in volume and become softer, which leads to an urge to defecate and easier evacuation.

Hemolax 5 mg contains the active ingredient bisacodyl in a dosage of 5 mg per enteric-coated coated tablet.The other ingredients include Arabic gum, calcium carbonate, carboxymethyl starch sodium, quinoline yellow, iron (III) hydroxide oxide, Eudragit S 100, FD&C yellow No.6 aluminum, glucose solution, lactose monohydrate, macrogol 6000, magnesium stearate, corn starch, methacrylic acid-methyl methacrylate copolymer, montan glycol wax, PEG castor oil,Povidone, castor oil, sucrose, silicon dioxide, talc, titanium dioxide and white clay.

Contraindications

Hemolax must not be taken if you are hypersensitive to the active ingredient bisacodyl or any of the other ingredients of the preparation.The medicine should also not be used if there is an intestinal obstruction or if you have symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting or fever.These symptoms may indicate a serious medical condition that requires medical advice.Children under 2 years of age must not take the product.

Dosage

Adults and children over 10 years of age can take 1-2 coated tablets (5-10 mg) daily before bedtime for immediate onset of action.Children aged 2-10 years should take 1 coated tablet (5 mg each) daily before going to bed.The tablets should be taken whole in the evening or morning on an empty stomach with plenty of liquid.Taking it in the evening leads to bowel emptying after around 10 hours, while taking it in the morning on an empty stomach takes effect after around 6 hours.

Hemolax may only be used for a short time (maximum up to a week) without a doctor's advice.If you have chronic constipation, you should consult your doctor.An overdose can lead to diarrhea.If you have severe symptoms, ask your doctor for advice.Do not take a double dose if you forget to take the previous dose.

Patient information

Take special care when taking Hemolax if constipation is accompanied by other symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting and fever.These symptoms may indicate a serious medical condition that requires medical advice.Hemolax should not be taken if you have illnesses that are associated with water and electrolyte imbalances.Laxatives should only be taken for a short time if you are constipated.

Effects on the ability to drive and use machines have not yet been reported.

Pregnancy

Before taking any medicines, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.There are no case reports of adverse effects during pregnancy and breastfeeding.Hemolax should not be used in high doses or for long periods of time during pregnancy.The product should not be used during breastfeeding as there is no sufficient information about possible passage into breast milk.
