Description of the drug
This medicine is used to support the willingness to sleep.It is used to promote sleep in cases of sleep disorders.No prescription is required for this product.
Active ingredients and ingredients
The main active ingredient of this preparation is L-tryptophan with a dose of 500 mg per unit.In addition, it contains various excipients such as carboxymethyl starch, sodium salt type A, cellulose powder, magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide, highly disperse, stearic acid, talc, titanium dioxide and tricalcium phosphate.
Contraindications
The medicine must not be taken if you are hypersensitive to tryptophan or any of the other ingredients of the preparation.Its use is also contraindicated in cases of severe liver dysfunction, a disorder of brain function as a result of chronic liver disease (hepatic encephalopathy), severe kidney disease and disorders of kidney function, and small intestinal carcinoid with heart damage (Hedinger syndrome).The preparation also cannot be used if you are being treated with certain medications for depression (monoamine oxidase inhibitors, serotonin reuptake inhibitors) or are taking the appetite suppressant dexfenfluramine.
Dosage
Always take the medicine exactly as your doctor has told you.The usual dose for adults is 2 film-coated tablets daily, equivalent to 1 g of tryptophan.After consulting your doctor, this dose can be increased to up to 4 film-coated tablets, equivalent to 2 g of tryptophan.After 3 to 4 weeks, your doctor should check the need for further treatment.There is no experience with its use in long-term treatment.
If you have taken more than you should, please tell a doctor.Poisoning with tryptophan can only be expected in the event of significant overdoses and manifests itself as vomiting and symptoms of serotonin syndrome.If you forget to take the dose, do not take a double dose, but continue taking it as directed.
Intake
Take the film-coated tablets whole with a little liquid 20 to 30 minutes before going to bed.
Patient information
Particular caution is required when taking the drug if you are being treated with phenothiazines or benzodiazepines.You should also consult your doctor in advance if you are taking other monoamine oxidase inhibitors, if you have high blood pressure or if you are taking dextromethorphan at the same time.Eosinophilia-myalgia disorders may occur during treatment with tryptophan-containing medications.If eosinophilia occurs together with muscle and joint pain, cramps or skin changes, treatment should be stopped immediately and the doctor informed.Since there is insufficient experience with use in children and adolescents, this age group is not yet intended for therapy with tryptophan.
This medicine may impair your ability to react, especially when combined with alcohol.Therefore, you should be careful if you actively drive or operate machines after taking it.
Pregnancy
The medicine should not be taken during pregnancy or breastfeeding as there is no experience with its use during this time.In justified cases, your doctor will decide whether use is necessary and possible.
