Rökan 40mg is used to treat symptoms caused by age-related circulatory disorders or organic brain performance disorders.The typical symptoms of organic brain performance disorders include memory problems, difficulty concentrating, depressive moods, dizziness, ringing in the ears and headaches.If the symptoms are unclear or new complaints occur, a medical examination is required.

Mode of action

The dry ginkgo leaf extract contained in Rökan 40mg has an antioxidant effect and inhibits the harmful effects of free oxygen radicals.It improves blood circulation by optimizing the flow properties of the blood and has a protective effect on the heart.Rökan 40mg also promotes memory performance.

One film-coated tablet Rökan 40mg contains the following active ingredients and excipients:

As an active ingredient, one film-coated tablet contains 40 mg ginkgo leaf dry extract (35-67:1), where the extractant is acetone 60% (m/m).This corresponds to 9.8 mg ginkgo flavon glycosides and 0.2 µg ginkgolic acids.

The excipients include cellulose, microcrystalline, croscarmellose, sodium salt, iron (II) oxide, orange, iron (III) oxide, hypromellose, lactose 1-water, macrogol (PEG) 1500, magnesium distearate, silicon dioxide, highly disperse, dimeticone silicon dioxide[alpha]-hydro-octadecyloxypoly (oxyethylene)-5-sorbic acid water,Starch (corn), talcum and titanium dioxide.

Contraindications

Rökan 40mg must not be used if you are known to be hypersensitive to Ginkgo biloba or any of the other ingredients of the drug.It should not be used in children and adolescents under 12 years of age due to insufficient research.In the case of sad moods and headaches that do not occur in connection with organic brain performance disorders, the medicine should only be used taking all necessary precautions into account.If you have a pathologically increased tendency to bleeding or are being treated at the same time with anticoagulant medications, seek medical advice before using Rökan 40mg.Caution is also advised before operations.

It cannot be ruled out that taking ginkgo preparations may promote the occurrence of further seizures in epileptics.

Dosage

In the case of brain dysfunction, it is recommended to take 1-2 film-coated tablets three times a day (equivalent to 40-80 mg of ginkgo extract 3 times a day).

For arterial occlusive disease, dizziness and ringing in the ears, the dosage can be either 1 film-coated tablet three times a day (equivalent to 40 mg ginkgo extract 3 times a day) or 2 film-coated tablets twice a day (equivalent to 80 mg ginkgo extract 2 times a day).

The film-coated tablets are taken whole with a little liquid in the morning, lunch and evening.It can be taken regardless of meals.

No prescription is required for this product.

Patient information

The duration of treatment for brain dysfunction depends on the severity of the disease and should be at least 8 weeks for this chronic disease.After a treatment period of 3 months, it must be checked whether continued treatment is still justified.

In the case of arterial occlusive disease, improvement in walking distance requires a treatment period of at least 6 weeks.

In the case of dizziness and ringing in the ears, no further improvement in symptoms can usually be expected after a treatment period of 6-8 weeks.

Pregnancy

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, medication should only be taken after consulting a doctor or pharmacist.Animal experiments showed no evidence of any harmful effects.However, since there is no experience in humans, the benefits of treatment must be carefully weighed against the possible risks during pregnancy.It is not known whether ingredients in the extract pass into breast milk.

Notes

If the memory problems, concentration problems or headaches persist for longer than 3 months despite using the medication as directed, a doctor should be consulted, as these may be illnesses that require medical clarification.

Sad moods or frequent dizziness and ringing in the ears generally require clarification by a doctor.

If hearing impairment or hearing loss suddenly occurs, you should consult a doctor immediately.

If skin hypersensitivity reactions occur or if you have persistent headaches or gastrointestinal complaints, you should consult a doctor so that he or she can clarify whether there is a connection with the use of ginkgo extract or whether the symptoms are due to another cause.
