Instructions for use of the article Isotonic saline solution 0.9% Bernburg. Isotonic saline 0.9% Bernburg is an electrolyte solution for intravenous infusion for fluid and electrolyte replacement in hypochloraemic alkalosis, chloride loss, short-term intravascular volume replacement, hypotonic dehydration and isotonic dehydration. It should not be used in hyperhydration states and caution should be exercised in the presence of decreased potassium, increased sodium and increased chloride in the blood and in certain conditions requiring restrictive sodium intake. Dosage is based on fluid and electrolyte requirements and the maximum daily dose is determined by fluid and electrolyte requirements. The solution should be administered intravenously. Overdosage may result in overhydration, increased blood sodium and chloride, hyperosmolarity and an acidotic metabolic state. Therapy for overdose includes discontinuation of solution delivery, accelerated renal elimination and reduced delivery of appropriate electrolytes. Side effects may include an increase in the sodium and chloride content of the blood. A doctor or pharmacist should be consulted if there are any questions about its use. Normal storage precautions apply and the solution should not be used after the expiry date has passed.
