Information for use with the article Kalinor Effervescent Tablets: Kalinor Effervescent Tablets contain the active ingredient potassium citrate and are used to substitute potassium in cases of severely low blood potassium concentration (hypokalaemia). They are also used to prevent kidney stones. The tablets are intended for adults. The active ingredients of the effervescent tablet are potassium citrate, potassium hydrogen carbonate and citric acid. The finished solution contains 40.0 mmol potassium ions, corresponding to 1.56 g potassium and at least 13.3 mmol citrate ions, corresponding to 2.5 g citrate. It is important to read the package leaflet carefully before use. If necessary, the package leaflet can be read again later. If you have any questions or need additional information, it is advisable to consult your pharmacist. If the symptoms worsen or do not improve, it is essential to consult a doctor. Possible side effects are nausea, vomiting, belching, heartburn, flatulence, abdominal pain and diarrhoea. In rare cases, patients with hypersensitivity may experience an allergic reaction with skin itching or facial swelling. People who have a hypersensitivity to the ingredients of the effervescent tablet (potassium citrate, potassium hydrogen carbonate, citric acid) or any of the other ingredients of Kalinor effervescent tablets must not use it. Similarly, persons with conditions often associated with increased blood potassium concentration, such as dehydration, impaired renal function, Addison's disease or adynamiä episodica hereditaria, should not use the effervescent tablet. People with inherited fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrose isomaltase deficiency should also not use them. Special caution should be exercised in the case of certain pre-existing conditions or if other medicines are taken at the same time. The dosage of the effervescent tablets depends on the amount of potassium to be balanced and should be 1 to 3 tablets per day. In the case of potassium-related disorders of nerve and muscle activity, cardiac arrhythmias or to prevent lowered blood potassium concentrations, no more than 160 mmol of potassium should be taken per day. To prevent kidney stones, the dosage should be chosen so that the daily dose of 4 effervescent tablets is not exceeded. The effervescent tablets are completely dissolved in a glass of water (200 ml). The solution can be mixed with fruit juice to taste and should be drunk in sips over 10-15 minutes. A daily dose of 2 or more effervescent tablets should be taken throughout the day, preferably with meals. Treatment with Kalinor effervescent tablets should be continued as long as the potassium deficiency persists or to prevent recurrence of kidney stones. Use may take days to weeks to correct the potassium deficiency. An overdose of Kalinor Effervescent Tablets may result in an increased blood potassium concentration, which may affect normal heart function. In the event of a significant overdose, a doctor should be consulted immediately. If the dose is forgotten, do not take a double dose. It can be made up at a later date, but the maximum daily dose should not be exceeded in the process.
