Softasept N is an alcoholic skin disinfectant used to disinfect the skin before surgical procedures, punctures and injections. It contains the active ingredients ethanol (74.1%) and isopropanol (10%). Softasept N is applied undiluted and rubbed in with a sterile swab. The skin area to be disinfected must be completely wetted and kept moist during the exposure time. The exposure time varies between 15 seconds and 2.5 minutes, depending on the skin condition and the procedure. Possible side effects include skin redness, burning and contact allergies. Softasept N can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. However, it should not be used on mucous membranes or injured skin. Softasept N should be stored away from heat and open flames and should not be used beyond the expiry date.
