Symbioflor 1 is an oral suspension containing Enterococcus faecalis bacteria. It is used to reduce the recurrence rate of recurrent upper and lower respiratory tract infections, especially inflammation of the sinuses and bronchi. The medicine contains lactose and glucose and should therefore be taken with caution in case of intolerance to these sugars. It should not be taken if you are hypersensitive to the bacterial culture containing Enterococcus faecalis bacteria or any of the other ingredients of the medicine. It should also not be taken during or shortly after antibiotic treatment. The recommended dose for adults is 30 drops three times a day. The duration of use may be up to 6 months. Possible side effects are headache, dry mouth, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, hives, itching, rash, skin reactions and painful swelling of the skin and mucous membranes (angioedema). The medicinal product should be stored away from heat and frost and should be used within 4 weeks after opening. Before taking, the bottle should be shaken well and the drops gargled in the mouth before swallowing. Care should be taken not to exceed the recommended dosage.
