Isotonic saline solution 0.9% Braun is an infusion solution that is used universally in infusion therapy.It is stable, easy to grip and break-proof, has an integrated hanger and does not require any ventilation.The puncture port is already germ-free, which makes handling easier.The solution saves space when transporting, storing and disposing of items.It is also DEHP/PVC-free and latex-free.

Active ingredient and areas of application

The active ingredient in this infusion solution is sodium chloride.It is used to replace fluids and salt in cases of fluid deficiency or simultaneous sodium and fluid deficiency.It is also used when the pH value is increased and the chloride level is simultaneously reduced, as well as when there is a loss of chloride.Other areas of application include short-term filling of the vascular system, as a carrier solution for electrolyte concentrates and compatible medications, as well as for wound treatment and moistening cloths and dressings.

Application and dosage

Isotonic saline solution 0.9% Braun is applied intravenously or used for rinsing and moistening.The amount of solution depends on fluid and electrolyte needs.The maximum dose is 40 ml per kg body weight per day, which corresponds to 6 mmol sodium per kg body weight per day.The solution is usually administered at up to 5 ml per kg of body weight per hour.In exceptional cases, the solution can also be delivered at a higher speed as a pressure infusion.

Side effects and storage

Like all medicines, Isotone saline solution 0.9% Braun can have side effects, although not everyone gets them.Possible side effects include increased sodium and chloride levels in the blood.Store drug out of reach of children.This medicine does not require any special storage conditions.Do not use the medicine after the expiry date stated on the container and carton.After first opening, the product should be used immediately.If not used immediately, storage times and conditions between first opening and use should normally not exceed 24 hours at 2 to 8°C.
