Umckaloabo® Juice for Children is a herbal medicine that was specifically developed for the symptomatic treatment of acute bronchitis in children aged one year and over.Acute bronchitis is a common respiratory infection that is often caused by cold viruses in children.Because children's respiratory systems and immune systems are still developing, they are particularly vulnerable to such infections.

How does Umckaloabo juice work for children?

The active ingredient in Umckaloabo® juice for children is an extract from the roots of the South African Cape pelargonium (Pelargonium sidoides).This extract stimulates the body's defense mechanisms and helps the immune system fight viruses and bacteria more effectively.It also promotes the removal of tough mucus, which relieves the symptoms of bronchitis and shortens the course of the disease.

Umckaloabo® juice for children is used for the symptomatic treatment of acute bronchitis.Acute bronchitis often manifests itself as a scratchy throat, sore throat and dry cough, which later turns into a productive cough.The body tries to clear stubborn mucus from the respiratory tract.Since most respiratory infections are viral, antibiotic therapy does not make sense in most cases.

How is the medicine used?

Umckaloabo® juice for children is taken morning, lunch and evening before meals.The dosage depends on the age of the child: Children aged 1-6 years take 2.5 ml three times a day, children aged 7-12 years take 5 ml three times a day. A measuring cup and a dosing pipette are included with the product for precise dosage.Even after the symptoms have subsided, the medicine should be continued for a few days to prevent a relapse.The duration of treatment should not exceed 3 weeks.

100 g of Umckaloabo® juice for children contains 0.2506 g of extract from Pelargonium sidoides roots (1:8-1), dried, with ethanol 11% (m/m) as the active ingredient.The juice contains maltodextrin, xylitol, glycerol 85%, citric acid anhydrous, potassium sorbate (Ph. Eur.), xanthan gum and purified water as other ingredients.5 ml of Umckaloabo® juice for children contains 13.33 mg of Pelargonium sidoides root extract.

Contraindications

Umckaloabo® juice for children must not be taken if there is a known hypersensitivity to one of the components, if there is an increased tendency to bleeding and if anticoagulant medication is used, if there are severe liver and kidney diseases, in children under 1 year of age and during breastfeeding.If there is no improvement within a week, fever persists for several days, shortness of breath or bloody sputum, a doctor should be consulted immediately.

Dosage

The usual dosage is 2.5 ml three times a day for children aged 1-6 years and 5 ml three times a day for children aged 7-12 years. The exact dosage is determined using the enclosed dosing aid or the enclosed measuring cup.The medication should be continued for several days after the symptoms have subsided in order to prevent a relapse.

Patient information

Particular caution is required when taking the medication if there is no improvement within a week, a fever that lasts for several days, and if shortness of breath or bloody sputum occurs.In these cases, a doctor should be consulted immediately.For children under 6 years of age, treatment should only be carried out after consulting a doctor.

Pregnancy

There are insufficient data on the safety of using the product in pregnant women.The medicine should therefore not be taken during pregnancy.Since it is not known whether effective components of the preparation pass into breast milk, a risk to the infant cannot be ruled out.The medicine should therefore not be taken while breastfeeding.
