Area of application

The film-coated tablets contain the active ingredient naratriptan, which belongs to the group of triptans.These agents are also called 5-HT1 receptor agonists.Naratriptan film-coated tablets are used to treat migraines.Migraine symptoms can be caused by a temporary dilation of the blood vessels in the head.The film-coated tablets are intended to reduce this dilation of the blood vessels, which relieves the headache and reduces other symptoms of migraine, such as nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to light and noise.

Each film-coated tablet contains 2.5 mg naratriptan, equivalent to 2.78 mg naratriptan hydrochloride.In addition, the preparation contains the following excipients: microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, iron (III) hydroxide oxide x-water, hypromellose, indigo carmine aluminum salt, lactose, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate (vegetable), titanium dioxide, triacetin and sodium ions.

Contraindications

This medicine must not be used if you are allergic to naratriptan or any of the other ingredients.The medication must also not be taken if you have heart problems, such as narrowing of the coronary arteries, chest pain or a previous heart attack.The same applies to circulatory problems in the legs, a stroke or temporary reduced blood flow to the brain.Its use is not recommended if you have high blood pressure, severe kidney or liver disease, or are taking other migraine medications at the same time, including those containing ergotamine or comparable active ingredients.No prescription is required for this product.

Dosage

Do not take the medicine until the migraine headache has started.It should not be used to prevent migraine attacks.The usual dose for adults between 18 and 65 years of age is one film-coated tablet, taken whole with water.Naratriptan is not recommended for children under 18 or adults over 65.It should be taken as soon as possible at the onset of the migraine headache, but can also be taken later during the attack.If symptoms recur, a second film-coated tablet can be taken after 4 hours, provided there is no kidney or liver disease.For these diseases, no more than one film-coated tablet may be taken within 24 hours.No patient should take more than two film-coated tablets within 24 hours.If the first film-coated tablet has no effect, you should not take another film-coated tablet for the same migraine attack and instead ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.

Intake

The usual dose for adults aged 18 to 65 is one film-coated tablet taken whole with water.

Patient information

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking the medicine, especially if you have certain risk factors, such as heavy smoking, nicotine replacement therapy, men over 40 years old, or postmenopausal women.In very rare cases, serious heart problems may occur after taking it.If you are allergic to sulfonamide antibiotics, you may also be allergic to naratriptan.Taking it too often may make your headaches worse.If you feel chest pain or tightness after taking it, seek medical attention immediately.If you are taking medication for depression, tell your doctor or pharmacist before taking it.Drowsiness can occur both from the migraine attack and from taking it.In this case you should not drive a car or operate machines.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine.There is limited information on safety in pregnant women, although there is no evidence of an increased risk of birth defects.Do not breastfeed your baby for 24 hours after taking it.If you express milk during this time, discard it and do not give it to your infant.

Notes

Naratriptan is not intended to prevent migraines.It only works if the attack has already begun.The preparation contains lactose.Do not use the medicine after the expiry date stated on the package.This refers to the last day of the specified month.
