Calcilac effervescent tablets are used to treat calcium and vitamin D deficiency. They can also be used for the supportive treatment of osteoporosis. The recommended dose for adults and elderly people is one effervescent tablet once a day during or between meals. The tablet is dissolved in a glass of water and drunk completely. It is important not to exceed the stated dosage. Side effects may include increase of calcium concentration in the blood or urine, constipation, flatulence, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, itching and skin rash. There are several contraindications to its use, such as elevated calcium levels, kidney calculi, parathyroid disease, vitamin D overdose and others.
