Ibuprofen proff® 5% gel

Ibuprofen proff® 5% gel is a remedy for external use for pain and inflammation.It contains the active ingredient ibuprofen at a concentration of 5%, which means that 1 gram of the gel contains 50 milligrams of ibuprofen.This product is available without a prescription.

Area of application

The gel is used to treat swelling and inflammation of the soft tissues near the joints, such as bursa, tendons, tendon sheaths, ligaments and joint capsules.It is also suitable for sports and accidental injuries such as bruises, sprains and strains.Ibuprofen proff® 5% gel can be used in adults and adolescents aged 14 and over.

The active ingredient ibuprofen is embedded in tiny micelles, which allows it to be evenly distributed on the skin.After application, ibuprofen penetrates the skin and develops its pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory effects.The water and alcohol content of the gel can create a cooling feeling when applied, which is perceived as pleasant.

The gel formulation is free of parabens, silicones, sulfates and phenoxyethanol.Increased penetration of the active ingredient can be achieved through iontophoresis, a special form of electrotherapy.

Ibuprofen proff® 5% gel contains ibuprofen as the active ingredient.1 gram of the gel contains 50 milligrams of ibuprofen.The other ingredients include dimethyl isosorbide, 2-propanol (Ph. Eur.), Poloxamer 407, medium-chain triglycerides, lavender oil, bitter orange blossom oil and purified water.

Contraindications

Ibuprofen proff® 5% Gel must not be used if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to ibuprofen, certain fragrances such as benzyl alcohol, benzyl benzoate, citral, citronellol, coumarin, eugenol, farnesol, geraniol, D-limonene, linalool or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.The gel must also not be applied to open injuries, inflammations or infections of the skin, or to eczema or mucous membranes.In addition, it should not be used under airtight dressings and is contraindicated in the last 3 months of pregnancy.

Dosage

Ibuprofen proff® 5% gel is applied to the skin 3 times a day and rubbed in lightly.The amount depends on the size of the area to be treated and is usually a 4 to 10 centimeter long strand of gel, which corresponds to about 2 to 5 grams of gel (100 to 250 milligrams of ibuprofen).The maximum total daily dose is 15 grams of gel, which is equivalent to 750 milligrams of ibuprofen.

Intake

The gel is applied to the skin and rubbed in lightly.Increased penetration of the active ingredient can be achieved by using iontophoresis, where the gel is applied under the cathode (negative pole).The current should be 0.1 to 0.5 milliamperes per 5 square centimeters of electrode surface and the duration of application should be up to about 10 minutes.

After applying the gel, hands should be wiped on a paper towel and then washed, unless these are the treated area.The paper towel should be disposed of in the trash.Before showering or bathing, you should wait until the active ingredient has absorbed into the skin.Occlusive dressings should not be used.

Patient information

It is recommended to speak to a doctor or pharmacist before using the gel.Side effects can be reduced if the lowest effective dose is used for the shortest possible period of time.Patients who suffer from or have suffered from bronchial asthma or allergies in the past may experience bronchospasm.

Patients with asthma, hay fever, swollen nasal mucous membranes or chronic obstructive respiratory diseases should only use the gel under medical supervision.Care should be taken to ensure that children do not come into contact with the rubbed skin areas.Treatment should be discontinued if a rash occurs.

The treated area should not be exposed to direct sunlight or artificial UV-radiation during application and for one day after the end of treatment to reduce the risk of photosensitivity reactions.Even when ibuprofen is used externally, its effects on the entire body cannot be completely ruled out.

The gel should not be used in children and adolescents under 14 years of age as there are insufficient data on effectiveness and safety for this age group.When used on a single or short-term basis, the medicine has no influence on the ability to drive and use machines.
