Dekristol 1000 I.U. is a medicine containing vitamin D3 (colecalciferol). It is used to prevent rickets and osteomalacia in children, adolescents and adults. It can also be used to prevent vitamin D deficiency disease in people at increased risk and for the supportive treatment of osteoporosis in adults. The dosage varies depending on age and area of application. Premature babies receive half a tablet or a whole tablet daily, depending on their birth weight, while infants, children, adolescents and adults should take half a tablet to a whole tablet daily. It is best taken with a meal with sufficient water. For long-term treatment with daily doses above 500 I.U. vitamin D3, blood and urine calcium levels should be monitored. There are certain groups of people in whom the medicine should not be used, such as hypersensitivity to the ingredients, increased calcium levels or excretion in the urine, kidney stones or kidney dysfunction.
