Mykofungin® 3 – Gentle and reliable relief for vaginal yeast infections

Three-quarters of all women suffer from a vaginal yeast infection at least once in their lives.About 9% of women experience recurrent vaginal yeast infections.

What is a vaginal yeast infection (vaginal mycosis)?Numerous organs can be affected by a fungal infection, also known as mycosis.A vaginal yeast infection involves the vagina and/or the labia.Treatment requires an antifungal medication.This is necessary because the body cannot eliminate a fungal infection on its own.No prescription is required for this product.

How does a vaginal yeast infection develop?In most cases, a vaginal yeast infection is caused by the yeast fungus *Candida albicans*.Yeasts colonize mucous membranes—such as those in the mouth, intestine, or vagina—in small numbers and generally do not cause disease.However, if the vaginal environment becomes unbalanced, the fungi can multiply excessively, leading to an infection.Common triggers include hormonal changes during puberty, pregnancy, or menopause; a weakened immune system due to stress or illness; and alterations to the vaginal flora following antibiotic use.

Typical symptoms of a vaginal yeast infection include intense itching or burning in the area of the external genitals and vaginal opening, increased white-greyish, curd-like discharge, and redness and swelling of the affected tissue.

Mechanism of action

Mykofungin® 3 relieves symptoms quickly, reliably, and effectively.The active ingredient clotrimazole inhibits the growth and proliferation of fungi and kills fungal cells.It is well tolerated because it acts primarily on the fungal cell membrane, which differs from the human cell membrane.Unpleasant symptoms usually disappear within a few days.To ensure long-term therapeutic success, treatment should be continued until symptoms have completely resolved.

Active ingredients / Ingredients

Mykofungin® 3 contains 200 mg of clotrimazole.Other ingredients are adipic acid, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate (vegetable origin), pregelatinized maize starch, sodium hydrogen carbonate, polysorbate 80, highly dispersed silicon dioxide, and stearic acid.

Contraindications

The medicinal product must not be used if you are hypersensitive to clotrimazole or any of the other ingredients of the product.

Dosage

Mykofungin® 3 is for vaginal use.One vaginal tablet should be inserted as deeply as possible into the vagina once daily on three consecutive days—preferably in the evening, while lying on your back with your legs slightly drawn up.If there is a simultaneous infection of the labia and adjacent areas, or if the partner has a medically diagnosed inflammation, additional local treatment of the affected areas should be carried out.To avoid potential reinfection, the partner should therefore also undergo a medical examination.

If necessary, the treatment may be repeated.Ideally, treatment should not be carried out during menstruation or should be completed before it begins.Sexual intercourse should only take place using a condom during treatment and for two days afterwards.To reduce the risk of an ascending infection, hands must be washed thoroughly before insertion.In patients with complex cases, treatment should be administered by a physician.

In general, symptoms of a vaginal fungal infection subside significantly within the first four days of treatment.If symptoms have not completely resolved or have worsened after treatment, a physician must be consulted.The applicator is intended for repeated use and should be cleaned thoroughly after each application.

Administration

The vaginal tablet should be inserted as deeply as possible into the vagina, ideally while lying on your back with your legs slightly drawn up.It is advisable not to undergo treatment during menstruation or to ensure treatment is completed before menstruation begins.

Information for patients

Exercise special caution when using the vaginal tablets if you are suffering from a fungal infection for the first time or if the infection has occurred more than four times in the past twelve months.Vaginal discharge and inflammation can have various causes that generally require a medical diagnosis.

No special precautions regarding the ability to drive or operate machinery are required.

Pregnancy

Before using any medicines, ask your doctor or pharmacy for advice.For reasons of caution, you may only use the vaginal tablets during pregnancy after an appropriate benefit/risk assessment by your treating doctor.During pregnancy, treatment with vaginal tablets should only be carried out after consulting your doctor.If you are breastfeeding, you can use the vaginal tablets as directed by your doctor.
