General information

Hawthorn-ratiopharm® is a herbal medicine that is used for heart disease.It is used specifically when the heart's performance declines, which corresponds to stage II according to the New York Heart Association (NYHA).No prescription is required for this product.

Active ingredients and ingredients

Each film-coated tablet contains 450 mg of hawthorn leaf and flower dry extract (4-7:1), with ethanol 45% (V/V) serving as the extractant.Other ingredients include maltodextrin, colloidal silicon dioxide, microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, macrogol 6000, talc and titanium dioxide.The medicine contains less than 1 mmol (23 mg) sodium per film-coated tablet and is therefore almost sodium-free.

Area of application

Hawthorn-ratiopharm® is used when the heart's performance declines, which corresponds to stage II to NYHA .This is often evidenced by reduced physical resilience, where everyday activities such as climbing stairs or walking can lead to discomfort.

Contraindications

This medicine must not be taken if you are allergic to dry extract of hawthorn leaves with flowers or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

Dosage

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you.The usual dose for adults and adolescents aged 12 and over is 1 film-coated tablet twice a day.It is recommended to take the product for a minimum of 6 weeks and a maximum of 6 months.The treating doctor should then determine the further duration of use.

If you take more than you should, continue taking as directed unless increased side effects occur.In this case you should consult a doctor.If you forget to take a dose, do not take a double dose, but continue taking it as directed.

Interrupting or prematurely ending treatment is usually harmless.If you have any further questions about taking it, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Intake

The film-coated tablet should be swallowed whole with sufficient liquid, preferably a glass of drinking water.Do not take the film-coated tablet while lying down.

Patient information

Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking the medicine if the symptoms of the disease persist for more than six weeks or if there is water retention in the legs.If you have pain in the heart area that can radiate to the arms, upper abdomen or neck area, or if you have difficulty breathing, immediate medical attention is required.

There are no sufficient studies on the use of this medicine in children under 12 years of age.No special precautions are required regarding the ability to drive or use machines.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.The widespread use of hawthorn as a medicine has not yet resulted in any evidence of risks during pregnancy and breastfeeding.The medicine should therefore not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Notes

Please do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the pack or outer packaging.The expiry date refers to the last day of the specified month.
