Aescusan® retard
Aescusan® retard is a herbal venous agent that contains the active ingredient of horse chestnut.It is used for complaints related to diseases of the leg veins, such as chronic venous insufficiency.Typical symptoms include swollen legs, varicose veins, a feeling of heaviness and tension, pain, itching, tiredness in the legs and leg cramps.No prescription is required for this product.
Active ingredients and ingredients
Each prolonged-release tablet contains 178.5 to 263.2 mg of dry extract of horse chestnut seeds obtained with ethanol 50% (m/m).This corresponds to 50 mg aescin and 21 mg protoaescigenin.The following excipients are also included: calcium hydrogen phosphate, crospovidone, Dimeticon 350, highly disperse silicon dioxide, sorbic acid, polyethylene glycol (5) stearyl ether, macrogol 4000, magnesium stearate (vegetable), hypromellose, ammonium methacrylate copolymer (type A), ammonium methacrylate copolymer (type B), sodium hydroxide, polysorbate 80, povidoneK25, saccharin sodium, talc, triethyl citrate, vanillin, titanium dioxide, iron (III) oxide and black iron (III) oxide hydrate.
Area of application
The preparation is used to treat symptoms of diseases of the leg veins.These can manifest themselves as swollen legs, varicose veins, a feeling of heaviness and tension, pain, itching, tiredness in the legs and leg cramps.
Dosage
Adults aged 18 years and over should take one extended-release tablet twice daily, which corresponds to a dose of 50 mg aescin.The tablets are taken whole with a little liquid in the morning and evening before meals.Initial treatment success may only occur after a treatment period of four weeks.Long-term treatment is possible after consulting a doctor.
Contraindications
The medicine must not be taken by patients with known hypersensitivity to horse chestnut seeds or any of the other ingredients.
Intake
The prolonged-release tablets are intended to be taken orally and are taken whole with a little liquid in the morning and evening before meals.
Patient information
Particular caution is required when taking it if there is inflammation of the skin, superficial inflammation of the veins, hardening of the subcutaneous tissue, severe pain, skin ulcers, sudden swelling of one or both legs and if the function of the heart or kidneys is impaired.In these cases, a doctor should be consulted.Taking it does not replace other preventive measures or treatment measures such as cold water or wearing medically prescribed support stockings.There are no sufficient studies on the effect on the ability to drive and operate machines.
Pregnancy
The medicine must not be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding as there are no sufficient studies.
