Calcimed D3 500 mg / 1000 IU Direct is a preparation that contains calcium and vitamin D3.It is used to prevent and treat deficiencies of these two substances in older people.It also serves as a supplement to the supportive treatment of osteoporosis when there is a risk of a combined deficiency of vitamin D and calcium.

With increasing age, the bone formation processes slow down, while the breakdown processes predominate.This leads to porous bones that lose strength and stability.The risk of osteoporosis and associated bone fractures increases.Older people are often deficient in calcium and vitamin D because the recommended daily intake of these nutrients is rarely met through food.

Active ingredients and ingredients

The active ingredients in Calcimed D3 500 mg / 1000 IU Direct are calcium and colecalciferol (vitamin D3).One sachet contains 500 mg of calcium as calcium carbonate and 25 µg of colecalciferol, which corresponds to 1000 IU of vitamin D3.

The other ingredients include Isomalt.

Contraindications

Calcimed D3 500 mg / 1000 IU Direct should not be used in cases of hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients, increased calcium blood levels (hypercalcemia), increased calcium excretion in the urine (hypercalciuria), overactive parathyroid gland (hyperparathyroidism), bone marrow cancer (myeloma), bone metastases, prolonged immobilization of the limbs with hypercalcemia and/orHypercalciuria, kidney stones (nephrolithiasis), calcium deposits in the kidneys (nephrocalcinosis), vitamin D3 overdose (hypervitaminosis D) and severe kidney problems.

Dosage and intake

Adults and the elderly should take one sachet of Calcimed D3 500 mg / 1000 IU Direct daily, which corresponds to 500 mg calcium and 1000 IU vitamin D3.The granules are placed directly on the tongue, dissolve in the mouth through saliva and can be swallowed.It can be taken at any time of the day, regardless of meals, and should be taken long-term.The duration of use should be discussed with a doctor.

Patient information

Calcimed D3 500 mg / 1000 IU Direct is not intended for children and adolescents.Oxalic acid (found in spinach and rhubarb) and phytic acid (found in whole grain products) can reduce calcium absorption in the intestines.Therefore, you should avoid taking medicines containing calcium two hours before and after eating foods with a high content of oxalic or phytic acid.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

During pregnancy, the daily dose of calcium should not be higher than 1,500 mg and the daily dose of vitamin D3 should not be higher than 600 IU.Long-term overdoses of calcium and vitamin D during pregnancy must be avoided as this can lead to high calcium levels in the blood and have negative effects on the unborn child.

Calcimed D3 500 mg / 1000 IU Direct can be used during breastfeeding if there is a vitamin D deficiency.Since calcium and vitamin D pass into breast milk, you should first consult a doctor about whether the child is already taking preparations containing vitamin D.
