Gingobeta® is a herbal medicine used to improve age-related cognitive impairment and quality of life in mild dementia.No prescription is required for this product.

Area of application

Forgetfulness, difficulty concentrating and memory are common symptoms that can occur with age and mild dementia.These symptoms can be caused by reduced blood flow to the brain.Targeted exercises and physical activity can help stimulate the brain and promote blood circulation, which in turn improves memory and concentration.Ginkgo biloba extract, as contained in Gingobeta® 240 mg film-coated tablets, is often used for supportive therapy.This extract promotes blood circulation and therefore improves oxygen and nutrient delivery to the brain, which can increase cognitive abilities.

The ginkgo tree, from whose leaves the extract is obtained, originally comes from China and can live up to 1,000 years.In East Asia, the ginkgo tree is traditionally used as a medicinal plant.The leaves of the tree contain special ingredients that are used to produce Ginkgo biloba extract.

To improve memory and concentration, the following tips can be helpful: drink enough, eat regularly, exercise regularly to strengthen your muscles and learn new things.

The active ingredient in Gingobeta® 240 mg film-coated tablets is Ginkgo biloba dry extract.One film-coated tablet contains 240 mg of quantified, refined dry extract of Ginkgo biloba leaves (35 - 67: 1), using acetone 60% (m/m) as the extractant.The extract is quantified to contain 22.0 - 27.0% flavonoids, calculated as flavonol glycosides, 2.8 - 3.4% ginkgolides A, B and C, 2.6 - 3.2% bilobalide and contains a maximum of 5 ppm ginkgolic acids.

Other components of the tablet core are croscarmellose sodium, colloidal silicon dioxide, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate (Ph.Eur.) [pflanzlich], microcrystalline cellulose and spray-dried glucose syrup.The film coating consists of macrogol 3350, poly(vinyl alcohol), talc, titanium dioxide (E 171) and iron (III) hydroxide oxide x H2O (E 172).

Contraindications

Gingobeta® must not be taken if you are allergic to Ginkgo biloba extract or any of the other ingredients of this medicine or if you are pregnant.Please only take Gingobeta® after consulting your doctor if you know that you suffer from an intolerance to certain sugars.

Dosage

The recommended dose for adults and elderly patients is ½ film-coated tablet twice daily, in the morning and in the evening.The tablet can be divided into equal doses and should be swallowed whole with sufficient liquid, preferably a glass of water.The duration of treatment should be at least eight weeks.If symptoms have not improved after three months or have worsened, please see a doctor.

Intake

The film-coated tablets should be taken orally, not while lying down.They should be swallowed whole with liquid, preferably a glass of drinking water.It can be taken regardless of meals.

Patient information

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Gingobeta® if you have a pathological increased bleeding tendency, suffer from epilepsy, are planning an operation in the next 3 to 4 days or are taking efavirenz.There have been no adequate studies on the effects on the ability to drive and use machines.Children and adolescents have no relevant indication for this medicine.

Pregnancy

Gingobeta® must not be used during pregnancy.It is not recommended to use it during breastfeeding.Weaning may need to be considered.

Notes

Gingobeta® contains lactose and glucose.Please only take Gingobeta® after consulting your doctor if you know that you suffer from an intolerance to certain sugars.Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the package.
