Gingobeta® is a herbal medicine for improving age-related cognitive impairment and quality of life in mild dementia.No prescription is required for this product.

Area of application

Forgetfulness, difficulty concentrating and memory are common symptoms that can occur with age and mild dementia.A possible cause for this is reduced blood flow to the brain.The Ginkgo biloba extract, as contained in Gingobeta® 240 mg film-coated tablets, can help support the therapy.This extract promotes blood circulation and therefore improves the oxygen and nutrient supply to the brain, which in turn can increase memory and concentration skills.

The ginkgo tree, from whose leaves the extract is obtained, originally comes from China and can live up to 1,000 years.In East Asia, the ginkgo tree is traditionally used as a medicinal plant.The leaves of the tree contain special ingredients that are used to make the extract.

To improve memory and concentration, the following tips can be helpful: drink enough fluids, eat regularly, stay physically active, and stimulate the brain by learning new things.

The active ingredient in Gingobeta® 240 mg film-coated tablets is Ginkgo biloba dry extract.One film-coated tablet contains 240 mg of quantified, refined dry extract from Ginkgo biloba leaves (35 - 67: 1), extractant: acetone 60% (m/m).The extract is quantified to contain 22.0 - 27.0% flavonoids, calculated as flavonol glycosides, 2.8 - 3.4% ginkgolides A, B and C, 2.6 - 3.2% bilobalide and contains a maximum of 5 ppm ginkgolic acids.

Other components:

Tablet core: Croscarmellose sodium, colloidal silicon dioxide, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate (Ph.Eur.) [pflanzlich], microcrystalline cellulose, spray-dried glucose syrup.

Filming: Macrogol 3350, poly(vinyl alcohol), talc, titanium dioxide (E 171), iron (III) hydroxide oxide x H2O (E 172).

Contraindications

Gingobeta® must not be taken if you are allergic to Ginkgo biloba extract or any of the other ingredients of this medicine or if you are pregnant.Please only take Gingobeta® after consulting your doctor if you know that you suffer from an intolerance to certain sugars.

Dosage

The recommended dose for adults and elderly patients is ½ film-coated tablet twice daily.The tablet should be taken whole and with enough liquid, preferably a glass of water.If you have difficulty swallowing, the tablet can also be divided.The duration of treatment should be at least eight weeks.If symptoms have not improved after three months or have worsened, please see a doctor.

Intake

The film-coated tablets should be taken orally.Do not take the tablets lying down.The tablets should be swallowed whole with liquid, preferably a glass of drinking water.It can be taken regardless of meals.

Patient information

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if you have an abnormal tendency to bleed, suffer from epilepsy, are planning to have an operation in the next 3 to 4 days or are taking efavirenz.Also talk to your doctor or pharmacist if symptoms worsen during treatment.There is no relevant indication for children and adolescents.

There have been no adequate studies on the effects on the ability to drive and use machines.Your doctor will tell you whether your illness allows you to drive and use machines.

Pregnancy

The medicine must not be used during pregnancy.It is not recommended to use it during breastfeeding.Weaning may need to be considered.If you have been prescribed this medicine despite a contraindication, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

Notes

Gingobeta® contains lactose and glucose.Please only take Gingobeta® after consulting your doctor if you know that you suffer from an intolerance to certain sugars.Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the pack or packaging.
