Camphor spirit is a preparation for external use that consists of an aqueous-alcoholic solution with camphor.The medicinally interesting plant substance of the camphor tree (Cinnamomum camphora) is camphor oil.This is obtained from the wood of the camphor tree by steam distillation or is now usually produced synthetically.

Application

Camphor spirit can be applied to the skin once or several times a day.No prescription is required for this product.

Effect and areas of application

Camphor has blood circulation-promoting, expectoration-promoting and circulatory-toning properties.It is used for inflammation of the respiratory tract such as bronchitis and coughs, colds and flu-like infections as well as muscle and joint pain and tension.Camphor also has a pain-relieving, local anesthetic, anti-itching and disinfectant effect.

Notes

Camphor spirit should not be used on babies and small children as it can be life-threatening due to spasms in the respiratory muscles.It is important not to ingest the product and to apply it only to healthy skin and not to large areas.It should also be kept out of the reach of small children.In case of contact with eyes, they should be rinsed thoroughly.Caution is advised in respiratory diseases such as bronchial asthma, pneumonia and COPD , as camphor can cause spasms in the bronchial muscles.
