Folic acid Sanavita 5mg tablets is a vitamin preparation that is used to treat folic acid deficiency states that cannot be compensated for by diet.No prescription is required for this product.

Active ingredients and ingredients

Each tablet contains 5 mg of folic acid as the active ingredient.In addition, the preparation contains the following excipients: cellulose powder, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, highly disperse silicon dioxide and talc.

Contraindications

This medicine must not be taken if you are allergic to folic acid or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.The increase in young red blood cells (reticulocytes) caused by folic acid can mask a vitamin B12 deficiency.Therefore, before starting therapy, it must be ensured that there is no vitamin B12 deficiency.

Dosage

Always take this medicine exactly as described or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, the recommended dose is 1 to 3 tablets per day (corresponding to 5 - 15 mg folic acid), depending on your needs.During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the dose should not exceed 1 tablet per day (corresponding to 5 mg folic acid).

The duration of treatment depends on the extent of the folic acid deficiency and depends on the clinical picture and, if necessary, the corresponding laboratory diagnostic measurements.It is determined by the doctor for each patient.During pregnancy, doses higher than 5 mg daily should be avoided.

With occasional higher doses, no overdose symptoms are to be expected.However, patients with seizure disorders may experience an increase in the tendency to convulsions.At high doses (taking more than 15 mg per day and for more than 4 weeks), gastrointestinal disorders, sleep disorders, agitation or depression may occur.In these cases you should contact your doctor.

Intake

The tablets are taken whole with meals with a little liquid.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.There are no known risks up to a daily dose of 5 mg.Controlled studies on pregnant women with daily doses of up to 5 mg folic acid have shown no evidence of harm to the unborn child.Folic acid supplementation can reduce the risk of neural tube defects.Since the safety of a higher dosage is not guaranteed, a dosage of more than 5 mg folic acid per day must not be taken during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
